I have this Matco NS12 nut splitter. I haven't used it a lot, but it works very well when I have needed it. I bought it at a tag sale for a few bucks and it looked like it had never been used. not sure how much one is new.

I vote for the craftsman. It's always worked for me on old rusted nuts on my old willys jeep.

I've used them in the past with poor results.
My main application would be the top nut on shocks. Usually the nut is recessed too far for a nut splitter so I use a cutting wheel.
A truly excellent one would be handy when a cutting wheel couldn't be used. Say close to a gas tank or something.

i only ever wish i had one when i do sway bar links and ford shocks.. i purchased the TEkTON set from Amazon it was a waste of money don't bother with it..

The Snap-on should work well im sure but i fear its too big to be used for many applications around the car.

On the snap on, what is the bar that is included used for?

You put it into the opposite end of the turn screw, there is a hole drilled into the body for it....you hold that to counter the turning of the pressure screw....hope that makes sense.

I just used my SO to remove a nut for Fisher plow headlights....plastic would have been ruined by heat, wanted to save the pivoting stud that is molded into the headlight body.

Does the rounded end of the Craftsman 1049222 nut splitter cause the tool to slip off the nut?
