I need to drill a 1 and 1/8 inch hole in a granite countertop that is 1 and 1/4 inches thick. I've seen a variety that are only I inch max deep bits. I can't use those.

I prefer no center guide style. I plan on making a little dam around the hole with plumber's putty and fill the drilling surface with a little water and drill slowly starting at an angle.

I don't need the most expensive bit out there just quality. I only need to drill 1 hole. After that I have no use for it except to loan it out or give it away.

Thanks in advance, John

Is the top installed? If not, drill from both sides.

Maybe you could drill part way then break out the slug?

Getting started without some type of guide might be tough. A piece of plywood with the right size hole, clamped in place would help. Also need to be careful about drilling square, which that would also help with

Just an another option, but if you use a bit with a pilot bit but the hole bit isnt deep enough, you can drill a pilot hole first and then drill from both sides if thats an option. Or drill from one side and try to crack the slug out and continue.

Without something to keep the bit from walking around, it could go bad pretty quick. Getting started will be the hardest.

Yup - just realized i said the same thing the guy above me did.. oh well..
yea - what he said..

For one or two holes, any diamond bit hole saw should work
I have used a Milwaukee branded bit in the past
Go slow, lots of water
I got mine from my local Ace hardware store
But like mentioned above, HD , Lowes , Ace should all cary them
