Best large 1/2 drive socket set w/ rail or case.

I have a cman 260 some piece set in my truck and yesterday I needs 1 1/8 but the largest socket I had in that set was 1 1/16.

I would like hem in their own case or rail. Might look into Gearwrench, I conveniently have an amazon gift card for this. Thanks.

I've got Proto Challengers all the way up to 2 1/4" (larger sizes are a 3/4" drive but I use an adapter)and they are some of the best sockets I have ever used. Might be a bit hard finding a matching rail for them though. SK is always a great idea too. I use Indestro's in my garage and they have a great shape for larger sockets. Can't go wrong with them and you can find them every were online for next to nothing. I also had a Williams Taiwan 1/2" set that came with a case and they did everything I ever asked them to do. I couldn't find a difference in performance when compared to Williams US or even SO for that matter.

Proto comes in a metal case. You can find used, on ebay for a lot better prices than new. I wouldn't recommend Grainger, unless you have a account.

I gind that gear wrench, k and kd sockets and wrenches are not that good og wuality.
I am a SK fan but Proto is very good. Both can be bought for pennys on th dollar used.

I've been keeping my open for sets that contain just the larger portion of full sets, but it seems pretty difficult. The metric SK set I found is along the lines of what I am looking for, and seems you as well except for being metric. I don't need to duplicate the 10-19mm sizes I already have, but it does cover 15-32mm which is a little less redundant than other sets I have been finding.

But yes, the imperial SK sets are very duplicative and do not contain sizes above 1-1/2". Something starting at 3/4" or 7/8" and up to 1-1/2" or 2" would be nicer. But I guess that is where 3/4" drive comes in.

Might just have to buy individual sockets and built your own set on a rail. Gets expensive quick that way though.

I use 1 1/4" A Lot in1/2" drive, probably more than most people. I have used smaller sizes with 3/4", just depends on the application. With a screen name like Farmall 450, he probably lives or works on a farm. There is a **** ton of 1 1/4" around the farm.

Not always, some common sizes like 36 MM and all that fun are needed on skidsteers and tractors in the field, I don't have any desire to lug around a 3/4 drive set, and in this application (Bobcat skidsteer) a 3/4 ratchet would not have fit.

Buy a 3/4" drive set. Those usually go from 7/8-2" or more. Use an adapter to use it with 1/2" drive tools.

Found what I need, I have the big 5 piece cman set in my toolbox, has 1 1/2 down to 1 1/16, the only sizes it's in there for are 1 3/16 and 1 1/2...I figure I'll buy those, leave them loose in the box, and put the set in my truck!

The sockets are thin walled, but made from Chrome Molybdenum, and are to be used in place of both impact sockets and/or chrome sockets. They're like thin-walled impacts. My SAE set goes to 1-1/2 inches and includes 1-3/16. Most chrome sockets are chrome-vanadium, and people will have differing opinions, but I prefer chromoly tools, as I think it's stronger, depending on its heat-treat and so forth. The grey tools seem to hold up to my abuse well.

They have a hole through the side for impacts, as well as divots inside the other walls in the female square for quick-release ratchets. I think they look cool too. (no, I don't work for them or anything - although I am selling a couple sets of these in the classifieds)

As you can see here, they are also stamped with Snap-On date codes as well, like my Bahco sockets (not sure what that's about, but I'm fine with it).
