I am using the COSTCO Feit 4' led fixtures. Have temporarily installed six of them and are great.

My shop is 30x50 with 12' ceiling.

If you do decide to go with the Costco LED lights, they were just on sale last month, so you might want to hold out one to three months to see if they come back on sale.

^ ^ ^ Depends on how bright you want garage to be . . . . about 10 would be bare bones lighting. Around 20 or 25 of the 2 bulb 4 ft fixtures would be nice and bright. Get up into 35+ fixtures and you're "Operating Room" bright !! :D

Check out the HD $25 LED shop light thread also, as you can get deal for $25 per fixture for LED 4 ft "2 bulb" shop light. Print out receipt of successful "price match" between HD stores and you should be able to convince HD to mark down the price.

Assuming Feit 3700lm output claim is accurate and using the Cree LS4-40 IES file (Cree = 3900lm) since Feit doesn't offer them (even when requested), you would need:
Qty
16 for 40fc (typical office environment)
21 for 50fc (general duty low detail garage lighting)
25 for 60fc
32 for 77fc
36 for 87fc
42 for 102fc (Vehicle spraying, polishing. Hospital examination/treatment)

Just a note. The Home Depot LED lights are not "2 bulb" if it is the same Home Depot LED light that I bought.
Feit doesn't really qualify as a 2 bulb either since the 2 tubes of LED light aren't replaceable bulbs.

1-2-10 lamps ... All that really matters is Lumen Output, Watts, L/W, CCT, CRI, quality and Warranty.
These are both low budget fixtures (as far as LED fixtures go) and you should expect to get what you pay for.
Commercial Electric: 3200lm, 36W, 89L/W, 4000K CCT, 80 CRI, 5 yrs.
Feit 4ft: 3700lm, 38W, 97L/W, 4000K CCT, 80 CRI, 0 yrs. (at least nothing mentioned on their website)

I just installed t he Costco LED lights in my new shop. The room is 20 X 32'. The ceiling is 15'6" at the top of the cathedral ceiling and it is about 10' wide. The ceiling then runs down to the top of the 10' walls. The ceiling is white metal. The walls are a light grey on the bottom and an even lighter gray on the top.

I installed 3 sets of 3 lights on the ceiling. 3 across the top of the ceiling and then 3 on each angles section.

3 lights makes the room about equal to a normal room lighting level. 6 really makes a nice work area and all 9 make it nice for washing and detailing a car. While doing some work in there after dark I used 3 lights standing up against the wall and has sufficient working light.

I am really happy with them and the output they have. Based on the rated output of the lights I was expecting to use a lot more but now I don't see the need.

I would suggest that you buy a few of them and try them out in your area and then go from there.

Lou.......got a smart phone ????? Download the free app .......light meter....... And measure the actual LUX.

This will give a real number for the amount of light at the work surface.
