I have read thru many pages on lighting and must admit I am a bit overwhelmed by it all. The shop portion of my building is 47 by 40 (the rest 13 by 40 is office and storage) and I have 12 ft ceilings. Can anyone tell me is there a generic layout that I should use? Should I use flush mount or non surface mounted. It’s just a regular shop where I will do some woodworking and part of it will just be a garage for my truck. Any advice as to what light I should purchase and how to arrange them?

thanks

It’s gonna be finished. Either painted drywall or white liner panel.

I used these in my 40x60x12. They even did the layout for me.

My Pops just built a new house with a 20x32 woodshop attached and he put two of these in the center on their own switch. Four around each of them on their own switches. A total of 10 of these in there and it's silly bright. He had simple ceramic screw in bases installed and purchased the bulbs himself. It is crazy bright in there !! He has the center two pointed down with the rest folded out a bit to spread the light out. Simple and effective. And cheap as well I guess.

I have a 40x60x12, open rafters. I put in 150w UFO lights. I started with 6 just to see if I like them.
I have them spaced 10' from the wall and 15' from each other, it's a little dim in the corners. 10 lights would be better.
