Best lights for a small 20x20 Garage ?

Hey all long time lurker...

I'm not sure what the best lights would be for my garage. I don't want to use neons, it seems like LED lights are the "future" but I have no idea what kind of power I need. I would like something pretty bright so I don't have to always use a flashlight when working on my cars.

Suggestions/Ideas ? If I'm not mistaken the roof is about 10-12 feet high.

I'll recommend the CostCo LED tube fixtures. I would say start with 6pcs and see how you like it, some modifications needed if you often work with the door rolled all the way up.

There's not much room around the edges in a 20x20 with a car or two in there. To avoid shadows, I'd probably start with a continuous strip of lights across the front (hood end) maybe even on the wall rather than the ceiling. Down the middle if you're going to have two cars in there at once (tight!), or down both sides if you're going to work with one in there. It really depends on how you're going to use the space.

As for the fixtures, whatever you like but I'd go with strips, Since the lights are going to be close to the work, you want to avoid shadows.

Look at the lighting diagrams. There is the one I used that has 9 fixtures for a roughly 20x30. You can easily look at the diagram and figure out the proper spacing for a 20x20 and 6 4' led ready t8 fixtures. I have a 21x28 garage and it's bright with using 9 fixtures and an extra over my workbench.

Thank you all for your answers. It is too tight to work on 2 cars at once. When I work inside the garage it is 1 car at a time.

I'm using 100 Watt daylight LED's in my shop, just the type that screw into old school Edison fixtures. Truly amazing the amount of light they put out.
