Best method to clean severe rusted swivel impact, Evaporust

If you had a severely rusted universal (swivel) deep impact, would you soak it in Evaporust, or other method to clean it?
It is a 15 mm deep Matco swivel impact socket, and it is very rusty?

Thanks in advance, would this impact be treated any differently, because it is an impact (different materials/coating) than say a regular rusted chrome socket?

Evaporust will remove black oxide coatings on impacts where it will leave Chrome unaffected, but if it's as badly rusted as you say then that's probably secondary to getting the rust off.

Plus 2 on evaporust, not cheap! Regular gallon of vinegar (White or apple cider type) will do the same thing. $3.00 vs $20.00 for evaporust. I've found that the vinegar is faster on deep-rust, however will remove your b/o finish rapidly.

Note concerning vinegar, by law you can't purchase vinegar with more than % acid content but if there is a Korean grocery store nearby, theirs would be good to use in this case. Don't taste it though unless you don't want your lips, tastebuds, etc.

Soak it in transmission fluid. It should clean right up
