Just go to your local Harbor Freight and get their assorted set of O2 sensor sockets and you will be all set. I use t:rocker:hem professionally and they work fine.

I was actually just looking for an o2 socket and found this thread!

Going to stop by and pick the kit up! Seems like a great value for all that you get... I saw a 3 piece kit for $35 this is superb!

Thanks,
-Nigel

If your replacing the sensor just knock off the top off the sensor with a hammer, cut the wires, and use a regular short impact socket with a ratchet or impact gun. Reinstall the new one with your regular O2 sensor socket. Most Split O2 sensor sockets **** and spread easily on seized ones that are stuck/rusted good.

Expensive special tools for O2 sensor removal? No way, waste of money where they salt the roads. Disconnect the sensor, stick on either a short line wrench, impact wrench (not socket), or your favorite torch bent cheapie box end and either hand or hammer tighten that SOB until the threads strip. Re-tap or chase the threads, and be done in <2 mins with 2 tools. O2 sensors typically have cheap rolled soft tin threads, unless your arm is bent in 5 directions you should be able to strip them by hand.

On another note I see that Lisle makes a 22mm gadget that fits on an air hammer to break them loose. Anyone tried one? Im thinking of getting a flank drive 6point SO wrench to try for the next one but there would still probably be a cheater pipe involved:bounce:

Co-worker bought that. It never seems to fit anywhere you need it to. The pipes or frame or suspension is always in the way. Plus, these are o2 sensors, not priceless jewels. If its stuck so bad that heat and a standard o2 socket won't do the trick, cut off the "sensor" part and use a normal socket on it. Threads will probably come out of the pipe at that point anyway...

99% of the time I use a crows-foot style wrench. Its a cheapy that I have no idea where I got it from and its at least 10 years old. I do have some of the deep "socket" style ones that are useful for pulling precat sensors on some of the v6 engines from the top (I'm looking at YOU GM).

I believe Matco sells a kit of sensor sockets of various types in their "Silver Eagle" brand for a very reasonable price, Lifetime warranty.

Had to pick one up at NAPA after finding a P0420 code while working on the in-law's car. Did the O2 sensor extender trick to get rid of the code. The socket from NAPA was very nice and heavy. Last O2 sensor I did snapped off flush, so I hade grind out the remnants and retap the hole.

we have the Snappy chrome 22mm, HF 10pc sensor Set, a napa and autozone brand split socket as well. Rarely do any of them actually work here in the rust belt, So my go to method if its being replaced is to cut the wires. Hit it with mapp gas and use my 3/8" or 1/2" impact and a 6pt socket.
