Guys,

I find myself using a fair amount of paper towels when working on shop projects. I have had better luck with some than others. What is your preferred paper towel to use in the garage?

If just white stuff, bounty is really the most absorbing..I use the blue rolls as well because they are durable...depending on what I’m doing.

whatever mrs couch buys for the house, I also use in the garage. Not too fussy in this case. Mainly use them for lighter stuff, and use rags for heavier use.

Depends on the job.........all brands have several levels or price points: need soft, no scratch, plastic cleaning, lens cleaning etc......VIVA Signature Cloth. Signature Cloth was rated for plastic computer screens.

Example VIVA has at least 5 products from “Signature Cloth” to “everyday use”.

“RAG IN BOX” for every day shop messes blue or white.

Its rare that i use one of my high dollar blue paper towels, only when absolutely necessary. Grown accustomed to the free white paper towels.

I use C-fold towels from a dispenser in both basement and garage, sorta like an industrial setting. I buy towels in bulk from Costco. This has worked well for me for many years. it's easier than taking from a roll and simplifies choosing how much to take.

I don't pitch a good paper towel until it's really done, so I'll often have a slightly-dirty one on the workbench looking to get the last mile out of it.

And I'll often cut C-fold towels into quarters, so I have playing card-sized pieces for small jobs.

I have some of the blue towels, but they get used only on jobs where they're really the best choice.

I got a great deal on lint free paper towel roll at a body shop supply place. They were lint free and worked so good!!! I tried to buy them again but they were too expensive. If I could get an ok price, I would buy them again!!

Find out where the surgical rags from local hospitals are sent for cleanup. They are - at least here - blue cloth "shop rags". They cannot be reused, around here if you hit the remediation place at the right time, a huge bag sells for $20 or so. Like 10 lbs of the things.

Bounty, hands down. Bounty used to make something called the Duratowel, best thing ever. I even used them in the kitchen.

And none of that crappy 1/3 or 1/2 sheet stuff they sell, full sheets all the way. I find especially when using those for shop type work you actually use more length because the perforations have less integrity so you end up doubling the towels over or wadding them more. I'm pretty sure they know this but the marketing gives the illusion that you'll use less.

Also cheap paper towels are no bargain when you have to use 3x as many to simply dry your hands. I'm also an elitess when it comes to toilet paper.

People have an attitude that it's a one time use product, so they don't want to spend the extra money. But paper towels and TP are for some of the dirtiest or nastiest task we do.

Not sure they are the best but they are what I like, common POM by the case from Sams. Easy as possible, cheap, holders in all the places work is done, convenience and speed is everything. I got some blues, I really forget, so used to the common ones.

We tried the Sams vs Costco, very close, but the costco were a little better and if it matters, less "dust" comes off them.

I buy the white Walmart brand with the half sheet perforations. Last year I was in Walmart and they had several packages of blue Shop towels in the clearance section. About $1 a roll. I bought the 10 rolls they had there. The white towels are for light iping, the blue for heavy wiping and cleaning things with solutions since they don't easily fall apart.

I use Bounty half sheet paper towels, and rarely use more than one half sheet at a time. I love the half-sheet format, and am actually frustrated with the waste if I have to use full sheets (my parents only use full sheets, and hate the half sheets!). If they (the towels, not my parents) aren't saturated with something nasty, I let them dry and reuse them until they fall apart, or get nasty.

I do have a couple types of WypAll towels that I use mainly for degreasing and cleaning before painting, but I also let them dry and re-use them for wiping grease off my hands or for spills and such. Those are also cut into halfs or quarters before use, depending on what I am doing.

You can now get 1/4 sheets.

Usually Scott Blue and Costco, etc. have better prices than the auto parts stores. My wife even uses them occasionally when the house paper towels are not good enough for what she is doing.

Scott Essential Roll Control Center Pull Paper Towels (01032) with Fast-Drying Absorbency Pockets, Perforated Full-Sized Hand Paper Towels, White (6 Rolls per Case, 4,200 Sheets Total)

$42 a case, I can blow my nose on them, that's a big deal to me. No irritation even with winter cold.

Around $18 for the GP center pull dispenser.

Start a poll! It would be fun to see how the balloting goes on that.

No need for a poll. People who hang paper towels and TP to the back are degenerates. They should all be locked away from us normal and proper people.

I'm another heavy Kirkland user. (TP too :pimpflash) I do have those fancy blue towels on hand but they are often too fancy for general use. I use rags for most of the heavy stuff and microfiber towels for the not so heavy.
