Best Pipe Insulation?

My sprinklers were just finished up in my garage / attic with final inspection tomorrow. My garage isn't insulated or drywalled. The fire system does have any anti freeze loop to keep the pipes (PVC) from freezing. I'm in northern Az that does have it occasional cold days. I would like to insulate some of the pipes that are close to the roof as double protection. What would the best type of pipe insulation to buy? I'm a DIYer. thx matt

Pipe Insulation will only slow the chance of freezing, it will not prevent it. I don't know your weather. When you state it gets cold, is that only for overnight and then it pops back up to sixty degrees? You may want to consider some heat tape before you install the pipe covering if temps remain below freezing for extended periods. I would use at least one inch of fiberglass insulation. There are local suppliers who can assist you with your requirements. Talk with them. I used to be in the business insulating everything from schoolhouses to hospitals to refineries to nuclear power plants.

Pipe insulation won't do anything if the water isn't moving.

I agree with those who are cautioning you about insulating pipes with standing water in them.
