Best place for compressor tank

My 80 gallon Champion tank / receiver sprung a leak where the feet are welded to the tank. The motor and pump are fine. It technically could be used in a pinch but you would just be fighting the leak. I am debating putting the thing on CL with full disclosure ( some guy may not care and just weld it up or whatever) , scrapping the whole damn thing, or taking off the motor and pump and locating a new tank/receiver. I really have no inclination for a compressor project right now so part of me says scrap it or sell it. Other part says I have $50 bucks into it( bought 2, sold one to offset full purchase price) and I’ll never get a 2 stage pump and Baldor motor that cheap again.

SO- that’s the story- Where is a good place to source a new / not quite new 60 or 80 gallon tank??

If anyone wants a compressor project and is local to Cincinnati area, I could be swayed.

There are a lot of companies in Cincy that have ASME "R" stamps that could repair your tank. Here is a link to the National Boards website: http://www.nationalboard.org/ManufacturerDirectory.aspx Input the city state and search for shops that have "R" or "U" stamps.

It's a rare craigslist which doesn't have a couple of tanks for sale.

Keep in mind, there's no requirement that a motor and compressor have to be mounted on a tank. There are shops where the compressor and motor are mounted outside, overhead or in a closet, and the tank is in a corner or under a workbench.

That helps quite a bit! Thank you! I appreciate the feedback. I wonder if they could come to the house to weld’er up LOL. I assume they would need to test the repair. I’ll make a couple calls.

It wasn’t bolted down, I actually have it on an adjustable roll around base. But it’s lived an easy life in the 4 years I’ve had it. I can’t speak for the previous 20 LOL

I called today and they pushed me off to a distributor. Motion Industries , I had never heard of them, but they had a location here in town. Manchester tank was 583 bucks plus $125 in shipping. Eek.

I'll also say that there are always tanks or broken compressors on C-list. I bought a very large tank to replace my rusted one for $75. The "compressor project" took all of a couple of hours to swap parts over. The longest part of that was having to drill and tap four holes in the mounting plate.

Thanks. I think that is a bit small for my 1/4” impact gun.

I agree that the project wouldn’t take forever, but my champions inlet is in the side and I would most likely need to bend new lines from the pump to the tank inlet. It’s a weird size Copper tube used in hvac applications. I believe it uses flaired fittings. I have seen swagelock fittings as an alternative to copper tubing, but I recall those being pricey.

I think that I’m going to stick it on CL to see if there is any interest and then maybe pull the pump and motor and scrap the tank.
