As I'm still waiting for my garage to be built I've been researching different things. My shop will be carport style with 2" square tube framing. I plan to use 2" foil backed Polyiso Rigid Foam Board then cover with OSB. Who has the best price for this type of insulation? Any recommendations of where to order from or who to ask locally about getting some? I prices one online that sells by the pallet and freight was almost $900. The building won't have a vapor barrier so that's why I was going with the double foil backed boards. Thanks. 30x38x12 will be the size

Buy in pallets will bring the cost down. Most of the box stores have pretty good quantity discounts. The other would be ABC roofing supplier. They could also set you up.

There is a big market in reclaiming foam insulation from large building and reselling at low cost compared to new. look on Craig's list.

Understand most foam insulation is vapor impermeable and by default becomes your vapor barrier. A wall or roof with 2 vapor barriers will trap moisture and rot.

If you were in Texas I would sell you some. I cleaned out a storage unit full of it the other day to use for my building, but have extra. Keep looking on Facebook sometimes you get lucky, I see insulation posted up from time to time here.

No luck so far but been watching as I'll need quite a bit. In regards to the moisture issue the tops of the 12ft walls will be open so wouldn't that dry out any potential issues? The roof will have the bubble wrap stuff when installed. Depending on how the trusses are made I hope to be able to put a flat ceiling in and insulate that like an attic space. If I don't do foil backed won't the foam just absorb moisture and cause issues without plastic vapor barrier on the walls. It get very humid here in VA and probably won't have a mini split until possibly toward next fall.

I was able to score free styrofoam sheets from a high school that the entire roof was being replaced…2.5” 4’x8’ sheets….I got 225 sheets! They were giving it away!

I am not sure what your wall assembly will be but it seems risky to assume moisture will travel 12 feet to the exit of your choice.

The roof will have the bubble wrap stuff when installed.

Note the clamed “R values” for bubble pack as insulation are have not been seen when tested by independent labs.

Depending on how the trusses are made I hope to be able to put a flat ceiling in and insulate that like an attic space.
I like this part of your plan.

If I don't do foil backed won't the foam just absorb moisture and cause issues without plastic vapor barrier on the walls.

The foam itself is almost is almost impenetrable to vapor without the foil.
It get very humid here in VA and probably won't have a mini split until possibly toward next fall.
I do not see moisture vapor as a problem unless or until it finds a surface cold enough to condense the vapor into a liquid. Without air conditioning you will not have a problem in the summer.

price of everything is up, you wont get it cheaper buying in bulk. everyone in the roofing side is on allocation and will only sell or can buy a certain amount right now.
