We are working on buying a new place and hope to close before the end of April. As for the garage floor the concrete appears to be in great shape but the PO painted it with what appears to be Rustoleum Epoxy floor paint or something similar. It is worn down and generally doesn't look very good. It doesn't look like it is flaking anywhere just worn.

Is there any durable floor coating out there that I can paint right over the existing finish without having to spend days grinding the old finish off first? The garage will be used for parking cars and light maintenance. Most welding/grind/heavy abuse would be done elsewhere. It will also not be a display garage for expensive toys. Just looking for a durable easy to clean place to park and keep up the cars.

I am not trying to sound lazy but I am under a somewhat tight deadline (new baby coming) with some other new house projects that also need to get done. I don't have the time to research something to exhaustion like I normally would. I could just wait and do the floor later but learned from the last house that the best time to paint the floor is before we move all of our **** in. We moved into it 7 years ago and I never got around to finishing the floor :(

Last night I spent a few hours reading the various product threads on here and have to say people have some pretty strong opinions about their floors :)

I would degrease and scrub it then hit it with some 80 or 100 grit sand paper (just rough it up) on a pole sander. Wash it out and let it dry. Buy another kit of rustoleum and put a clear over it. That's probably the best quickest way. Let us know and take some pics.
