??

also, is it likely to be much of an improvement over my old Snappy one?
- the cap rotates off as you use it, for one thing

I have the snap-on one too. Isn't a snug o-ring part of the cap fitment?

There are various knockoffs now (westward, williams, etc). It's the only location for the ratchet selector I like.

I have the SO and the William’s. Identical mechanism, made on the same assembly line, but different handle. The only thing I miss on the Williams is the knurled shaft. I find I use the Williams more (at less than half the price)

I think my favorite ratcheting screwdriver is the stubby Gearwrench model. It fits my hand well, offers the ability to use different length blades, and has a nice crisp ratcheting action.

If you're having problems with the cap coming off of your snap on ratcheting screwdriver, it may have the wrong cap. Older snap on models use a different cap than current models.

The current black Mac ratcheting screwdriver is actually made by Titan despite having a kind of Duratek shaped handle and not being cheap. Don't get me wrong, the Titan ratcheting screwdriver is a great ratcheting screwdriver.

PB Swiss. Best mechanism feel and real bit storage.

After that probably one of the many “Reverse Gear” models: Facom/USAG, Wera, Bahco, Stahlwille, and probably 50 others. My favorite of the bunch is from Würth, which has a convertible straight or pistol handle, several shanks (including 1/4” square and even a telescoping magnet grabber), and three LEDs to light up the fastener. Second is the Facom/USAG one with a stubby bitholder built into the end cap. The ratchet itself has higher backdrag than PB Swiss or Snapon/Williams, but it works.

Since cordless tools came around, I seldom use a ratcheting screwdriver, but when I did, I had a Mac overdriver. You hold the dollar at the bottom and spin the handle, every rotation of the handle would spin the shank 4 revolutions. Also it uses a reversible one way roller clutch instead of a ratchet.

I also have a Snap on ratcheting T handle that I used to use.

PB swiss
Snap on hard / Soft
Wera

In that order, in my opinion. Each has benefits the others don't. As mentioned ratcheting screwdrivers are being phased out due to battery drivers advancing.
