For a guy looking for the BEST, most rugged, longest lasting. Who makes the BEST Road tool box. Friction slide for a pickup up mechanic working on ****** logging roads summer to winter. Price don't matter. If you have experience that would count.

I've been working out of a Snap On KRA62C heavy duty road chest for a little over a year and about 60,000 miles. It replaced a 26" Craftsman top box that I used for 8 or 9 years. I really like the SO box, it's holding up very well so far with a whole lot of weight in it. The box and tools are close to 700 lbs, with the empty box being 180 lbs.

If price is no object, then I would seriously check out one of the Proto/Stanley road chests. They are built like an industrial cabinet slide wise. The snap on true road chests are nice, and actually slightly cheaper IIRC.

BUT for the price, you can by a number of cheaper boxes and throw them out after a number of years if needed.

How about a Montezuma? Haven't got enough road time on mine yet, but they are built with this in mind.

Beat me to it.
I've got a small Montezuma that I won here in a road trip tool box contest, and it absolutely kicks ***.
I use it for all my road trips and my junkyard and race tool box.
It can't be beat for what you're looking for.
No drawers to wear out or get beat up, everything is right there in front of you, easy-access... Best designed tool boxes anywhere, in my opinion.

Montezuma. The aluminum ones from my experience are junk. They crack and stuff falls out of place. I have yet to complain about my steel one though. It's the 36" and I've had it for a year. I would recommend the 36" because you can fill it up pretty quick. I think I paid $400 for mine.
