best scan tool?

I currently work for VW so I don't need a scan tool. But I may get a new job at CarMax and would need one. My budget is $400 or less. Whats the best scan tool I can get for that amount. i was looking at launch and scantool.net but im not sure of the quality.

I have used many of them but the SnapOn one I currently use is the easiest and I dont have to go looking for the code meanings.

I just got an Autel MaxiDiag Elite MD802 and really like it. It's like a scaled-down version of their MaxiDas. It's model specific and lets you read and clear codes in all Powertrain, Chassis, Body, and Information & Communication systems. Not bad for under $300.

Under $400 won't get you much in terms of a scan tool. It will get you a code reader of varying ability, but not a scan tool. I use a SnapOn Solus Pro which has one of the widest coverage offerings in my opinion.

If I was to do it again, I would go with the Autel, but it will cost you more then $400. Get it off a truck guy and make payments. I am anti payments, but it is the one area its hard to skip by.

Find a used ethos. I got mine for $500 and it can do almost everything but bi directional tests. You can do engine,abs, airbag, body control, misfires, mode 6 for fords. You can check codes and it is vary responsive for data.
