Going to be doing a roof job this summer w somekinda not yet chosen steel R panel.

Have heard that there are a few different options of at least the rubber gasket compound/ longevity.

I know we have a handful of Guys on here that work w that stuff... Hoping to get educated and maybe linked to product/ supplier.

I am willing to pay for USA made if such exist.

Don’t know if this is the right thing to use, but this is what I used for a carport I just put together using R-Panels. Got them at Home Depot. I was drilling into metal tubing which is why I went with these, they had other options if you’ll be screwing into wood.

I always get mine from the metal building supply company where I purchase the R panels. Regardless of brand, be sure to get the ones with the washer/cap that covers the rubber seal completely.

The best screws for an exposed fastener roof system are probably these.

A zinc head screw that encapsulates the EPDM sealing washer. There are a few different brands of these out there. A metal building supply will have the best pricing if you need a quantity of ~250 or more.

Marc,
Look for cup-head roofing screws with EPDM washers. The cupped head captures and encapsulates the sealing washer, keeps it from displacing away from the screw shank when tightened, and limits UV edge degradation. Several different manufacturers offer a version of this screw; look at coatings/warranties to determine what works for your application and budget.

My metal supplier hadn't heard of screws with EPDM washers, but that's what I wanted. He was able to get them and sell them to me for the same price. I've only been installing them on my shop for a few months, so not sure about longevity. You can research EPDM vs neoprene or whatever type of washers to find out which you want.

Macrtrees, Contact MCBI, look on the internet for the location closes to you. They have any screw you will need to go into metal and into wood. All good screw for panels have rubber type washers. Lengths to attach to sub frame start @ 1 1/4" & longer. You will need a 3/4" screw for attaching the lap edges 2'-0 typical. If the roof is low pitch you will need mastic on the lower panel where the panels laps (low pitch cause the water to blow thru for these conditions). If this will help.

From what I now know - They have been, and still are the "standard"

But now we have the improved ones w a different longer life rubber compound (EPDM), alonf w a different style head that prevents over squashing of the rubber, and as said also protects from UV.

Bottom line is a quality job will use the new style. NOT the old style.

Feel free to add or correct.

I'm not aware of this, but again, no expert on the subject. Maybe look here: http://www.itwbuildex.com/pdf/buildex_catalog_2019.pdf

I have a carport on the front of the house that has these and don't leak; they still look pretty good, actually. The house sat vacant for 20 years before purchased, not sure when carport was built, but at least it's 20 years old. That's pretty good service life if you ask me.

Other than higher longevity rubber compound choice, the main problem is contractors NOT taking care to not overdrive.

The newer style head eliminates that happening.

I will probably go w the link in Post #5 by lunacy or similar mfg.... Thank you !
