looking for a quality (bright) shop light to work under and over my vehicle in the garage. Seen LED versions and CFL. Bought a few handhelds in past with crappy battery power and low light.
For underhood stuff, or many other tasks, I have one of these gooseneck floor lamps...Well, almost the same thing....The shaft stands 4' high and the gooseneck is about 24"...I installed a 150 watt CFL in it and it really works well.
For underneath, I'd go with what the guy above suggested.....the nice thing about CFL's is they have no filiment like incandesant bulbs, so when hot a slight whack or even dropping them won't break them very easy.
I have that one in "red" and it is nice performance-wise. Works very well and I would recommend, especially for the money. The "black" is even better because one of the complaints on my red one is how easily it picks up grease stains and refuses to let go of them.
