Hi everyone, looking for a set of bushing drivers with all different sizes so I have what I need when I need it. Anybody have a set they really like? Hoping to keep it pretty inexpensive. I see the ones on Amazon with one open end and one closed end but in practice does the closed end hurt anything VS. the open cylinder style ones you see on manual ball joint presses? Any big set with cylinders without a closed end? Is one design preferable over the other for any reason?

I have a smaller Snap-on and MAC bushing driver sets that have interchangeable handles that I have used for many years and for anything larger than about 1.25" in diameter I used to use sockets or machine specific ones as needed. However, a few years ago I broke down and bought a very nice set of bushing drivers made by Arizona Transmission & Machine (ATM).

I love this set of drivers. It has interchangeable and stackable drivers that can be used for pressing over shafts and they can be driven using either side. I reach for this set a lot more than I ever thought I would and although it was rather expensive, the cost is forgotten due to speed and ease of use and convenience of not having to dig around for the right size or machine the right size.

That looks really handy

This OTC set is about the best you can get. You make your own ID/OD discs for the specific size you are working with. By having a snug ID disc, you make it easier to drive the seal/bearing/bushing in straight. Can be found on amazon and at napa

I have the OTC 4507 Bearing, Race, and Seal Driver Set, but the OTC 27794 model mentioned above looks even better, albeit much more expensive. I also save old races. I take them to the disk sander with a 40 grit disk on it and sand the outside of the race just enough so it is no longer a press fit. That way it works well to drive the new one in, yet still comes back out easily.

I have one of the cheap Chinese Amazon sets. For the half dozen times I have used it I love it. Rather than hunting through my sockets and press plates I just grab the right size and go.

Example of what I have:https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01443Z21A/?tag=atomicindus08-20

I have this also. I don't use it a lot but for the $ it's great. I'd wanted the OTC set for years but couldn't justify the $ for home use and got this instead

I thought everyone just used sockets.

Me too :headscrat I have a small MAC set that I use for certain things. Sockets are the quickest to grab the right size up to 1 1/4". Then I have a set of 3" long pipe cut off of every size the steel shop had. I just told them cut me off a bit of everything round. Cost me $10.
