Best shop vac filter cartridge

Went to use my old Shop Vac QSP 6 gallon vac today and a cloud of dust came out of it. Apparently Mrs. LS6 used it as a wet vac and didn't swap the cartridge out for the foam filter, so the cartridge rotted out. I'm pretty sure it uses the Shop Vac brand "U" filter. Looking it up on the internet reminded me that I recently saw a reuseable Gore Cleanstream wet/dry HEPA cartridge at Home Depot and got to thinking, "I wonder what vac cartridges the GJ folks like best?".

the ones you can find. Out here HD likes to sell those only for its own brand of vac. I could not find one to fit a 6 gallon shop vac at any HD in the area, and only one Lowes nearby had them. I believe it was U. I usually can find shop vac substitutes at Lowes and Ace. Amazon has them too. Read the fine print because some of them are made really cheaply. Some are washable, some are not. Price doesn't always follow quality. As I recall the shopvac brand weren't even carried anymore around here, only Craftsman. The blue ones everyone was out of too. That might be the Gore one. We are an area of 3 million people here in the valley and I maybe made 5 stops until I found one. It was at a Lowes and the guy had to get a ladder to get them down.

I use the Gore Clearstream on my Fein vacs. But I had to drill the bottom to be able to bolt it in place.

Which Fein do you have? I have the Turbo I and find it hard to find filters.

I've got three. One older 4-wheel Turbo II (9-55-13), one newer 6-wheel Turbo II (9-20-25), and one stainless tank Turbo IV (9-88-35).

As far as I can see, the 9-11-55 Turbo I uses the same filters as the rest.

Note here that Fein offers two dry filtration modes. Either you use the cloth filter by itself, OR you use a pleated center filter with a collection bag. You should not use both the cloth filter with a pleated filter or a bag, as the combination will not fit.

The Gore Cleanstream fits all of my Feins. It is designed with a rubbery lip that firmly grips the core cage that the float ball rides in. It seals well enough as-is for me, but I figured I'd take it to the next step (though it shouldn't be necessary). So I drilled the bottom of the cage in mine, stuck a long stainless bolt through the hole, and locked the bolt in place with a nut. That slips through a hole I drilled in the filter base plate, which is then held on with a wing nut.

I use Harbor Freight bags in my smaller vacuums, and some HUGE Shop Vac bags from HD in the IV.

That's the one I want. I grabbed a 09093 for my Craftsman Clean and Carry wall mounted vac in the garage, but HD's people told me they don't carry the 09096.

If I can't find one I'm going to contact Gore directly.

The 'best' filter for a wet-dry vac is the Gore CleanStream stuff.

No worries about it getting wet and disintegrating, filters well. Works for wet or dry. Rinse it off if it gets clogged with fine dust, or GENTLY blow the dust off the pleats with a blow gun (do it outside  ).

Mine has lasted for YEARS now. (hope I didn't jinx myself)

I know this is off topic,but....
I've been trying to find bags for my older 16 gal Craftsman Vac,the inlet hose actually goes into the lid instead of the bottom.
Purchased in the mid nineties.

I've always used the Gore CleanStream filters in both my ShopVac and Ridgid models. They work great for both wet and dry and are easily cleaned.

It's time to get rid of the old "screamer" and buy a new, quieter Ridgid or Vacmaster vacuum. 12 gallon or 14 gallon is a good size.

I have used the Gore Cleanstream filters for years in conjunction with filter bags. There are some good deals on Amazon for bags that fit Shop Vacs.

I got the filters I needed. HD had the one that replaces the "Red Stripe" stock filter in my Craftsman wall vac and Lowe's has the one that replaces the "W" type stock filter for my small Shop Vac. Just a heads up, the Lowe's filter is listed as a Shop Vac brand part number 90340, but it's actually a Gore Cleanstream filter. It says " Gore Cleanstream" on the box in small print.

lol! I have the same one! It won't die! I've vacuum my flooded basement with it multiple times!

I wear shooting ear protection when I run it! :lol_hitti

Me too!

Last summer I let mine run 12 hours straight twice in the hot sun to capture the bees getting inside my hot tub enclosure.

I was sure I'd get to buy a new one, but its still running strong :(

It always helps to post a model number in case someone has a suggestion.
