Just starting to do my research on my planning for a new garage. Just wondering; what dimension would you all recommended. I was thinking on building around the size of 32x40.

Build it as big as you can afford and the available space for it. You can't make a garage too big.
My Son's garage is a bit over 5000 sq ft and he never complains that it is too big.

Check for property line offsets, and drive stakes at back of property. Now start walking forward to the house untill the wife won't stand for another step. Drive stakes and there you have about half what you need, but will learn to live with it.

Best size all depends on what you'll use it for. A garage for a couple of motorcycles is going to be different from a full on shop that has storage space for a couple of cars as well as fabrication tools and equipment.

Building on 2' or 4' modules will give the best economy of materials by producing the least waste. 4' being more efficient than 2'.

Don't overlook height when planning. Just because you don't need a crane or lift now doesn't mean you won't want one in the future.

It will end up being a compromise between what you really want and what local restrictions and budget allow.
