Best Source / Brand - Wire Terminals

Today I had a need for a "spade lug to male" type wire terminal which I ended up making with a copper strip but would like to know opinions on sources for good quality crimp on wire terminals.

It's like a lot of things...you often have the one you don't need or if you do have it, it's a thin, cheap unsubstantial one.

Thanks in advance.

I like the Molex Avikrimp connectors. They are nylon IIRC (not PVC) so they don't tend to crack when you crimp them in cold weather. You can get them at Mouser electronics.

Standard Motor Products has many many choices of std. nylon, heat shrink type, heat shrink solder type and others.

Regarding the T & B ones, is there any way to buy them in smaller quantities. Maybe 25 per size? Last time I checked, seems like they are a bit pricey for boxes of 100.

T&B are good, Molex (ETC), Nichifu, 3M, Amp, and KS Terminals are all good.
Stay away from some of the budget terms. Also the proper crimp is very important.

I prefer buying uninsulated wire terminals and using high quality heat shrink. The largest reason being that the terminals are so cheap, you can buy a huge array of sizes/types for the same price as insulated ones. Increases versatility, they are more low profile, and I think looks much more professional.

After doing some research it looks like Hollingsworth is a very high quality product but they have a min $500 order. :(

Anyone found a place to buy those in less qty????

I bought most of my stuff from dellcity.net You can order in much more reasonable numbers. They are still pretty high numbers iirc, but when you buy the un-insulated terminals, they are so cheap that buying a minimum of 100 terminals is only like $3 + shipping.

Our shop supply company sends us Sta-Kon brand stuff - is all works well enough.
Regardless of the specific brand, I prefer to get uninsulated terminals and then use the clear heat-shrink with the expanding adhesive / sealant stuff made into it. It helps support the wire and looks more professional than the plastic stuff used on most terminals, IMO.

3M, Molex, AMP all make good stuff. The electrical supplier stocks or at least can get the PVC insulated 3M terminals. I've also used their uninsulated lugs at times.

Hrm. We've ordered a single pack of 50 terminals from Hollingsworth at times, but that was a few years ago. Now, the boss finds them online somewhere for less. I'll ask him when he gets back in.

I included a small batch of various good quality terminals in my last purchase from www.cripedistributing.com 3M, Ace hardware, fairly decent looking stuff, fairly cheap.

Still burning from a yard sale purchase. Retired electrician selling off bunch of stuff and I found a nice looking plastic compartment type carrier full of terminals, and bought it for like $7, found it later at HF. :shocking:

bare uninsulated

I second that ! Of course to do it right you have to use heat shrink on the crimp.

The best/biggest selection of uninsulated terminals is SOLISTRAND. This brand was originally under AMP. AMP was bought several years ago by Tyco. Tyco has re-brand their connectors as TE Connectivity.
