Can't get search to work on my phone...

What's the best place to get a good, solid butcher block? I need to setup a new bench.

I used one from lumber liquidator (walnut), salvaged one from a job (maple) and one from Craigslist (oak).

I was looking for butcher blocks but came to the conclusion that buying the tools and building them myself was cheaper in the end.
Ikea has some for a good price but they are not very thick.

Check with a commercial restaurant supplier. Stainless is a must for that environment but they may have some used pieces they want to get rid of. I had one that was about 18' long from just such a place. If you buy a piece specifically for a 'work bench' you will pay a premium.

Buy a couple and glue them together...

Go on Craigslist and search for "Bowling Alley" or "Bowling Lane". you can usually find lanes for $20-30 a LF. They are 42" wide and sometimes, if you're lucky, hard rock maple.
