Best source for tempered glass panels for deck railing

I have never purchased glass. What are good sources for 12 tempered glass panels cut to size and delivered?

I am replacing about 50 feet of outdoor deck railing wood spindles with 5/16" thick tempered glass panels. The panels would vary in width from 30" to 70" wide but the height is all the same at about 28 inches.

Having checked Home Depot, Mendards and Lowes and I discovered the glass prices seem high and sizes are very limited. I would like to purchase from a local source near Nashville, TN that is willing to cut to size and deliver the panels to my home near Nashville, TN.

call a few glass shops, ask for sq foot price on tempered per your thickness.
The 70 inch piece wont fly for code ask for their suggestion or add a post.
Added expense for glass is edge work, if its all buried none needed, if exposed an arrised edge will probably do, if fussy flat polished. If top and bottom exposed you have to detail that in the order for polish type, not a big deal

Go Online and search for suppliers of custom tempered glass panels. Also, use standard thickness of 1/4" instead of 5/16" which may be special order.

I have built both in door stair cases and decks with glass panels. Talk to a local shop and figure out what their protocall is...

I had to have custom angled panels for my stairs..so I had to build everything first, they came out and cut to fit templates...then returned with panels three weeks later. You need to figure out the brackets/fastening system too.

I paid extra to get laminate inserted too...so if they did ever break...the glass essentially would stay in place.

The panels are really strong, almost 1/2" thick...but they had a small sample piece...I hit it as hard as I could with a hammer...and it didn't break.

The custum stuff is very expensive.

Look up Evans Glass in Nashville or Tennessee Glass Contractors in La Vergne or Bluegrass Glass in Lebanon. They all should be able to get what you need and are in the greater Nashville area.

I don't know code regarding thickness, but 5/16" seems a bit on the thin side. Might ask the glass companies for their recommendations. Post some pictures when it's done.

I've thought about glass for my decks; but there is so much railing I've decided that aluminum balusters and wooden rails are they way I'm going.

Glass around our deck is at least 1/2 inch. Nice polished sides, etc since top and bottom is exposed.

Most glass shops will order tempered glass from their supplier. Get your dimensions and price it at a couple different glass companies.

Ask the glass house and check your codes, but I haven't seen anything less than 3/4" for a railing. This is in commercial applications, but I can't imagine you could go as low as 5/16" for residential. Are you placing it in a framework, or creating the railing completely from glass?
