My Dad had me hold the wire while he pulled the cord on an old lawn mower. I knew right away that it had spark. Problem is it's a one time tool.

I always use my test light. Ground it somewhere, have the engine cranking or running and just pull the test light away from the spark plug wire. It will jump the gap, sometimes REALLY FAR

My test light is all metal, will I get a shock from holding it, while doing this procedure?

Thanks. I hate getting shocked. I'll try and hold the test light with insulated pliers while doing this, while looking out for an insulated test light.
