Best String Trimmer Head

I'm looking for a good 2022 recommendation for a trimmer head for my Stihl string trimmer. My weed eating is on the extreme side as I have a gravel road with drainage ditches that a mower can't get to. It's about a half mile long and there are lots of woody plants that I have to whack.

I've had them all, the bump style is out of the question, never had one that was reliable they end up being more pain that they solve for. Presently I have one that my Stihl shop sold me. It's a good fixed string head where you wind the string trough it. It is still a hassle as you have to feed the string through it in a "w". I had one years ago whenre you just pushed the string into the holes and a locking cam held them in place. If memory serve me the spring loaded cam got weak over time.

Any advice is appreciated!

I know you said bump feeds are out but I've been happy with the Echo Speed Feeds I added to both my Stihl and Redmax trimmers. Thing to keep in mind is they are a wear item.

Agreed on getting a brush cutter blade rather than a string head. They make "grass" blades for them that will tangle with some woody plants as well.

Or perhaps one of the reciprocator heads?

The echo speed feed heads are good. Very reliable and fairly simple to load. At work I do a lot of weedeating and a fixed string head just wouldn't work. Yes, you occasionally have to adjust the string in a bump head, but that has more to do with the string welding to itself inside the head than the head itself. Echo string is terrible. Stihl is okay. Weed Warrior is where it's at.

Also, if you're trimming along lots of gravel keep in mind that trimmer heads are consumable. The bump button wears faster than the rest but the whole head can wear very quickly. One of our guys finished one off in a couple of days prepping a road for new asphalt. Button was basically gone and the sides of the spool was severely worn. You could make it feed but had to strike hard on a firm surface.

I have one of these on my mine. I bought it because I was go through trimmer line like crazy on my hill. When I bought it I bought a extra set of blades cause I figured the rocks and brush would have destroyed them. 6 years later they are still in the package. I have used it to cut down a 1.5" tree as well. It works great on grass as well. I have never even put the line head back on.

Oregon Jetfit head with their Flexiblade line and carry some long nose pliers for the occasion the line breaks inside the rim.

i have the milwaukee cordless weed wacker and the head sucked so i got the echo speed feed head on recommendations from people here. i havent been disappointed, works very well and has reliably fed no issues.

I have not tried it but you might try heavy duty wire ties instead of string. Or get really aggressive and use braided wire.

We run Shindaiwa speed feed heads on all of our string trimmers. Durable, hold a ton of line, and easy to re-spool. Speed is the name of the game with all of the properties and they've performed better than the Echo heads.

Stihl Supercut automatic feed is the only head I'll use. YES you have to manually spool the trimmer line in two different pieces that you have to start in holes to hold them. It takes me about 2-3 minutes to do if I'm in a hurry. BUT it feeds perfectly and I don't ever have to bump it and leave crop circles all around my property.

I have also tried a Shindaiwa Feed Speed on my Stihls and it's super fast and easy to refill BUT I got tired of having to do so more often and there was the damn crop circles I hate. The Shindaiwa head got used for a few weeks and then put away for a backup.
