Best Temp For Shop With Heated Floors?

I have a 1,000sq ft insulated shop with hydro floor heat. Last winter I set the thermostat to 45 degrees and it seemed like the water heater ran non stop. I decided to try 50 degrees this year and even on colder days it seems to be running less? Is it possible that it is more efficient at a higher heat? I know we haven't hit sub zero temps yet, but still seems better. Also, it is quite a noticeable difference in comfortability between 45 and 50, and of course it show 5 degrees higher on the T stat. I might spend a half hour in there at night after work, and quite a bit of time on that weekends. But have plenty of toys I like to keep warm. Just curious what you guys run your temps at and what you have found? Thanks!

Just remember that you don’t get to write your own laws of thermodynamics.

Heat transfer is a function of delta T, so the larger the temperature differential between the inside of your building and the outside ambient, the more heat is lost to the atmosphere.

A lower thermostat setting reduced heating fuel use.

That‘s how it works! Laws of Physics will prevail.
To stay warmer while using less energy without changing your heater, your only choice is to do a better job at plugging air leaks and to install better insulation.

At start up with a cold floor a properly sized system will take a while to get up to heat .....

How much did you monitor the pump ? need more input to get the slab warmer ..... it could not have been running more.

Fair enough, just wanted to see if it was possible. It's not a system I know much about, but am trying to learn. The shop was built in 2014 along with the floor heat. Everything is new and no corners were cut, insulated very well. I bought the property in 2020.

Just curious…If you live where the winter temps get down to below zero F. , how many BTU’s does your boiler put out to keep 1000 sq. ft. at 50 degrees? What’s your insulation like maybe 2” spray foam?
