We are waiting on the Amnio results to see if the C-section will still be at noon. What is the best tool to use for cutting the cord? Will they let you use your one tools?

We are having a little girl, hopefully later today.

They'll give you a sterile surgical scissors. I doubt your personal bolt cutter will work.

BTW, the cord is surprisingly tough and a bit slippery.

I usually use my Gerber Gator for calf deliveries. I also have the 24" bayonet from my father-in-laws Danish Remington Rolling Block rifle that would be neat for pictures. I guess on the + side, I will have yet another set of stainless surgical tools for the shop.

They will provide you with scissors made with Surgical Steel and sterile. This is not something you would want to use anything less on anyway.

Congratulations and good luck!

Were you thinking manual or power tool? A hammer and chisel works well but you may need an anvil to pound against.

BTW Congratulations.

You're a nut dude!! Hey, congratulations and please let us know how it went!!

BTW, every doctor is different and my wife's doc didn't even give me the option to cut the cord. :(

Do it the old fashioned cave man way......... chew it in half.... Congratulation on the baby. Just think, your tool buying money will now be buying formula, baby food, and diapers for the next 3 years.

Congrats!

Junkman beat me. I just chewed mine in half. Don't even remember doing it, it was so long ago now!

My first had a few issues, so it was not an option. The 2nd, I am ashamed to say, took me 2 swings. I cut part-way through, and had to take another snip to finish it. It is very gristly and weird. Think turkey neck.

Don't know about umbilical cords, but i do have a pair of medial compund-joint side cutters for cutting ribs. They might work, they cut anything.

Congrats on the baby dude, now get off the computer and back to the wife!

When my second was born, the doctor held him up then said "Here" and handed me a pair medical scissors. Honest to G*d, my first thought was "That's neat, he's giving me a souvenoir." After I just stood there holding them for a few seconds, the doc says "Well?" I said "Well what?" He says aren't you going to cut it?" "Cut it?" I said. Doc says "Cut the cord right here between my fingers." Then I finally realized why he gave me the nice fancy scissors. And realized I had to give them back.:(

I felt kind of dumb afterwards but I did tell my wife later about it.

Congrats on the addition to the family!

Re: Ellanor and the Craftsman Diaper bag

:bounce:We had our daughter Ellanor "Ella" Claire Johnson at 1:33pm on Monday. She weighs 7lbs 3oz and is 19-1/4" long. My Craftsman Profesional diaper bag is at the hospital and getting used for service. I need to get my truck's back seat cleaned out for the ride home, but I have until Thursday to get that done.

It's obvious that the baby has its mothers good looks. Doesn't look a thing like you at all. So what was the "tool" that you got to use to cut the cord? Did they let you take it home with you? I can remember the days, when the father wasn't even allowed into the birthing room, and pregnancy was considered about the same as a communicable disease. Times sure have changed.
