I was all set to buy the HF box, but then I ran across this new White Kobalt unit on Black Friday at Lowes for $599:

Here's the top box now reduced to $249:

And the bottom for $350:

Both out of stock right now, but maybe they'll get more in. I found the Kobalt to be much better built than the comparable HF unit. Much better casters, thicker double wall top, power outlets with USB etc.

That's one sweet looking setup.

Well, today was toolbox shopping day. I went to Lowes, Home Depot, Sears, & Harbor Freight. In the end, I chose the Husky from HD. I chose the 52", textured black model. It was within my budget and offered the maximum storage capacity with deeper drawers, had thicker gauge steel, and a nice look compared to the Kobalt, Craftsman, and lesser grade Husky unit. My previous Home Depot visit to another store, they did not have this model on the floor.

I will agree that the US General toolbox is well made. But, in my price range, I would have ended up with a 44" combo. Going for the 56" combo, I would have paid over $1,000.

I went and messed with the 56" Husky combo ($699) and the 56" US General ($649) bottom this weekend. I just can't get past the extra storage and better (for me) layout of the Husky. Looking forward to hearing how it does for ya. I'm hoping to pick up this one in a month or two.

This may depend on your area and how much time you're willing to spend hitting "refresh" on the Craigslist page.

You don't have to constantly hit refresh. If you check the ads 2-3 times a day you'll find something eventually if you're in any kind of populated area.

I've been looking for 44-60" boxes for over a year, harbor freight mostly, on Craigslist, unless I want to drive 4 hours round trip I'd save money buying any store bought box new, I looked at the husky boxes today and I even had cash in hand to purchase one, but I mm willing to wait one more month for Black Friday and hope to get a better deal, craigslist is great if there's a saturation of boxes, but everyone in Indiana apparently doesn't get rid of old boxes lol
