I just got done doing a 4 wheel brake job and 2 cv axles on the miss' car. My new Milwaukee impacts are pretty nasty. I wiped off all the heavy gunk, but theyre still darkened with grease and brake dust in a lot of places. What does everyone use to clean their power tools with that wont hurt the plastics/ finish?

I use wd40 on a clean rag, strips the grease and dirt right off, I've been doing it for 2 years, about once a month, and they show no signs of damage. I just try to avoid the white lettering as it comes off easily. Nothing a white paint pen won't fix though

I spray a little Simple Green a on a microfiber and wipe them off, followed up with another swipe of a damp cloth (water), just to rinse off the SG. Two or three minutes and they're looking pretty clean again. Don't be too heavy on the SG, it can take off the white on the logos and fade the red a little.

I use Member's Mark degreaser concentrate from Sam's Club, diluted with water in a spray bottle and spray it on a rag or shop paper towel and it cleans the grime off nicely without damaging the plastic, rubber or decals.

It's similar to Simple Green at a fraction of the price.

GOJO White Creme hand cleaner + toothbrush + cotton towel. No water rinsing necessary. Will not harm the plastics or the soft grips. Also works very well on plier grips and air hoses; makes them look like brand new.

This...... I just did all my Milwaukee stuff a few weeks ago.. spray the rag, not the tool.. once the rag is saturated on a corner, just put your finger under the rag a wipe down the tool. You can do everything but the lettering.

I often use WD 40 on rag then a moist soap and water sponge wipe to remove the film with

Though sometimes diluted simple green helps with the grease but if too strong it'll take the white off the lettering....if you still even have that
