I am extending an unused 6/3 with ground romex cable to my garage from my laundry room (20ft) and I am not sure what is the best way to make up the connection is. I only have room for a 4" X 4" X 4" box, are there terminal strips availible for this size of wire? Large wire nuts? Large **** connectors?

Use a split bolt connector on each wire then wrap each connection with a roll of electrical tape then maybe some cloth electrical tape over that.

There are insulated splice connectors available for this. They have a bar with screw terminals in them for the connection and they are covered in an inslulation material. You can also buy the screw type splices uninsulated at home depot. You may also be able to find the insulated type, at least you can here. Cover the uninsulated splices with two layers of rubber insulating tape and cover with regulare black tape. split bolts will work but they are kind of hard to work with and they are messy

I will have to take a look at my local electrical supply for the insulated type, sounds like the way to go.

I like to use a J-Box for this kind of thing and code may require it. The screw terminal type is the easiest but 4x4x4 may be too small to use it.

I did a splice between 6-3 underground and 6-3 indoor in my garage. I used the split lug connectors. The box I used was a 6x6 in which I added a box extension. This worked out great with plenty of room. Send me your e-mail address and I'll send you the photos I took if you'd like. Remember, be neat and don't try to force the wires into to small of a box.

Yes you will have to use a jbox for this splice. In most areas you can skip the jbox if you use the crimp on barrel lugs and proper insulation.

I am going to use a J-box for sure. I might be able to use a 6x4x4 box, a 4x4x4 I know will fit.
