I am seriously considering the purchase of a Beta 910/55 3/8" ratchet. FYI, I own a Facom 3/8" QR palm control ratchet(J.174) and Hazet 3/8" 8816-1(2014) fine tooth ratchet. How does the Beta model in question compare with the two that I already own in terms of overall quality(fit, finish, tolerances, etc...), backdrag, smoothness and reliability? Any input would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

Beta ratchets are very reliable, they have a high number of teeth engaged. I think the Facom and the Hazet are a tad smoother. I personal like the direction switch on the Beta ratchets. The Facom mechanism can be a bit difficult with greasy fingers or under tension.

and the handle shape is very very good! i find it one of the best i have held. i ordered a set. returned it because it was too rough (back drag). but i tested a second one in a store and that was alot smoother.. so bought it again. mainly just because of the handle beeing so nicely shaped. :)

I received my Beta 910/55 3/8" ratchet this afternoon from Pegasus Auto Racing in WI. Unfortunately, to my disappointment, despite having similar internal mechanisms(72-tooth and 17-tooth engagement) to the Facom J.174 and Hazet 8816-1 it does not come close to the smoothness and minimal backdrag of those two. I am beginning to wonder if it was not lubed or came insufficiently lubed from the factory.

On a positive note, I have to agree that the Beta's handle ergos are to die for and the direction slide switch is quite convenient . I am debating whether to exchange it for another in the hopes of getting a smoother one or returning it for a refund.

I received my replacement Beta 910/55 ratchet this afternoon from Pegasus Auto Racing in WI. Since my original complaint was about it's lack of smoothness and backdrag, they took it upon themselves to test the replacement before sending it out to me. Hence the open bag.

I am pleased to say that the second 910/55 that I received was substantially able to close the gap in smoothness and backdrag between it and the Facom J.174 and Hazet 8816-1. Although, it still is not as smooth as the other two, it is now in the ballpark of respectability. With handle ergos that are to die for, convenience of it's direction slide switch and an overall length of nearly 8", it may just be my personal favorite ratchet of the three.

If you have not already noticed, I tend to favor rhft ratchets. As of late, I have been especially fond of those with a coo of Italy such as the Beta and Facom.
