Beta C27S vs Hazet Assistent

In my forever quest to be efficient and effective while working mobile, I'm considering one of these collapsible tool trolleys.

Right now I have a Matco 4 drawer tool cart that I use in conjunction with a cantilever box and a small snap on KRA 65C. It works, but its not really great for putting in my truck and going to another building.

I have my main box in the shop, this is for my commonly used hand tools, some of which are too big/long to fit in a small hand box or bag, and I don't want to get lost in my Knaack jobsite box.

Thoughts on these boxes? The Beta is a touch cheaper, but the Hazet is cooler. Are they similar in size and function?

Beta has more plastic, and its 'shelves' pull out a bit like a drawer.

Cheapest I've seen the Beta was around 450, and the cheapest I've seen the Hazet Assistant was around 800.

I personally shopped for a while trying to get the Hazet, and gave up for what it is, at its price point. I really wanted it more for the novelty and the occasional trip when I need portable tools to help a friend, but it just wasn't worth the cost to me in the end. Still be a very cool box to have.

I'm sure you've looked at the dimensions and all, but it sure looks to me that the assistent doesn't hold as much. The Beta is mostly metal, the only plastic is the drawer trim and latch mechanisms. Fully loaded, I can pick it up and put it in my truck bed, though one could certainly load it to be too heavy to lift.

I've never handled the Hazet, but I suspect the build quality is a bit better. That said, my Beta has held up just fine to daily use. It looks to me that the Beta lends itself to customizing, I'm not a fan of the divisions in the trays on the Hazet.

There's not really any in-depth videos out there on the Beta, but their website shows very detailed measurements. If you haven't noticed, its available in red and black now too, but from what I've seen the orange one can be found cheaper. I got mine for a bit under $500 to my door.

If you have any specific questions let me know, I don't think there's very many of them out in the wild.

In case I wasn't clear, I love my C27S. Its one of the best purchases I've ever made, and pairs perfectly with a Veto LC.

Thanks for the feedback. I know these aren't super common here in the states, but for some reason I would really like one. Its good to hear from people that have direct experience with the Beta. I figured it would be the other way around.

The overall height is listed at 22.5” to top of handle but I only have 20.25” under my tonneau cover. I was thinking if the height at the pivot will clear than I can modify the one handle.

I could always lower the whole thing but didn’t really want to go through the effort and lose storage space

True, I did some mods right away and it was painful to first take a drill to it, ha ha. I don't think I'd go as far as to cut structural parts. Too bad it won't fit, it's an awesome cart.

Is the weight really 50 pounds?

I think loaded with tools it will be too much for me to lift out of a truck bed everyday.

I use mine mostly at the shop now, but I used to lift it daily in and out of a Subaru. I don't know if it's really 50 pounds, but it doesn't seem like it. That said, it sure as hell could be loaded as to be unmanageable. You could always use a ramp.

I bought the beta through Zoro with 25% off. I ended up raising the rear axle housing, replace casters with smaller ones, and straightened out one of the handles to get it to fit.

I got about half of my tool bag plus a box drill bits and taps in it and it is pretty heavy. I still have the bottom to fill up and then I think it will be too heavy for me to lift.

That Beta looks really nice.

FWIW, I ended up buying a used Assistent off a member here, it is a neat tool I haven't really gotten to utilize well yet. Someday I'll really get it dialed.

We had an ancient Hazet Assistent in a garage I worked in 25 years ago, it was really old then like '50s or '60s, we used it as a service cart to hold parts and tools if we were changing clutches under the hoist

They are well made, and last a long time
