Was looking at a new 3/4 ratchet and came across some beta ratchets but fairly scarce in the U.S. And looks to be a quite great design with 17 teeth engaged how do these hold up compared to say snap on dual 80 or hazet fine tooth

Not much is spoken about beta but looks excellent quality

I know this is not a 3/4 ratchet in pic only using as reference

Real tools reviews on you tube has a video on the 1/2 drive version. Amazon, Trident-Supply and others hawk BETA.

There should be a thread about the ratchet, try the search function. Woodstockva posted it.

I have that ratchet in 3/4 drive. To be fair, it doesn't see a whole lot of use, as when I need 3/4 drive I usually need a long breaker bar as well, but it seems to be a pretty good tool.

It's not the quality of a Snap On, and I doubt it would stand up to hard use like a Hazet, but it's pretty good! For the price (Beta are very reasonably priced here in the U.K.) it's very good!

I do like the single piece design vs multi piece design

I don't use them a lot every once in awhile but want something of excellent quality too

snap on dual 80

Well since you are talking 3/4 drive, the SO L872 is not a Dual 80 ratchet head. It's a 32 tooth design.

I know nothing about the Beta tools but I can tell you the SO one is hell for stout. And you can get it with both 19" and 36" handles.

All the 3/4 ratchets I've ever seen are low tooth count ratchets.

And discussion of 3/4 ratchets would not be complete without mentioning the Wright 42" ratchet, which is a steal at around $180.

Personally my opinon on 3/4 drive tools is to buy high quality because you might be putting an insane amount of torque on them (for example we had a special case recently where we had to take a 3/4 bar, put a 6 foot pipe on it, and then put a track bar down the pipe to extend it further, and put two men on it to break loose an axle mounting bolt on a skidder. Would not have wanted to do that with a cheap tool)

I have used one a bit. For a 3/4" it's very light, and has unusually high tooth count. This round head design has proven quite strong in smaller ratchets. Given the size of the 3/4" ratchets head I imagine (and have some experience to back it up) they are impossible to break without serious cheater pipes. But this is nothing unusual for for 3/4" drive.

Actually most mfg. don't spend a lot of time designing handles for 3/4" ratchets, they are usually just round bar or pipe. This has probably something to do with market demand - most users stick pipe on them almost every time they use them. For such uses the big fat rubber/plastic handle on the Beta is a bit of an obstacle - you need bigger pipe!

If you got long and strong 1/2" drive ratchets of similar length or even longer - what is the purpose of 3/4" ratchet if NOT to put cheater pipe on it? And for that a low tooth count ratchet with round handle is possibly better a option. (actually I don't know since these Betas might be just as strong)
