I almost forgot! I saw the Snap On guy today.
4d3f277c28259aa7ad991d2466f43377.jpg
Got a 1-1/8” angle wrench and a long 1/4” extension. I didn’t have either. I could really use the extension quite a bit lately. I haven’t had to do too much hydraulic work lately. But I’ll have the wrench ready when I need it. Between Snap-On, SK, Martin and Sunex I’ve almost completed an angle wrench set all the way to 2”.

Between the River Hills & the River Bottom

Another cold one. But it sounds like everyone is cold today. Then by the late weekend we’re supposed to be in the 60’s. This is ridiculous.

The day didn’t start out well. I knew my truck was low on fuel, but as I let it warm up a few minutes this morning, the service truck ran out of fuel sitting on the slope of my driveway. It was cold, windy, and I was immediately aggravated with the whole situation. So rather than waste time and be even more aggravated I just let the service truck sit and took the Silverado.

Dad had a doctors appointment today so I was by myself majority of the day. I spent the first half of the day checking on the cattle, thawing out waterers, and taking straw out to the cattle at the retirement farm.

This afternoon I put the pressure washer back together, minus the fuel filter for the burner that we haven’t got yet.
aa83fe4450bb5ab1f220dbdc73a6e471.jpg
Then it was back to the 4440, I looked into the fuel problem a bit more. I also started on the SCV’s couplers.
7678cfd288d48667768b5e67fd3ad025.jpg

Dad worked on some lights on the new truck.
d98bc04081a96c559a81420c2b0ed4ea.jpg

This evening we ended up with some unexpected snow. The something else unexpected. The Silverado wouldn’t start.
9acb638fc763d89aad6d9c28db6439b6.jpg
I hooked the charger up to the battery. Battery didn’t seem to be low. I’m not sure what the issue was. But it went from doing absolutely nothing to just firing right up. Maybe it was just the cold. Stupid cold.

I’d been going through my pictures and thought I’d post a bit of the progression of the toolbox set up. Although, it doesn’t include the truck boxes.
2985b3a6cfedfa4e84d9a45023486664.jpg
This craftsman box was the first box I’d ever had, besides a small portable 3 drawer. I bought the top first, then the bottom several months later. I sold it late 2014.

After selling the box I had to move everything just to some cardboard boxes while I waited to save up for the Deere box.

I was majorly excited about it. At first it was tons of room. At first.

Then about 2 years later.
c0c30f48689ca58921956b992dda4eb7.jpg
I added the 56” box

And then of corse this is where it’s at today.

Sounds like you had one of those days.

This is a fantastic thread, I finished reading through from the start during last week. Even went sniffing around the Australian JD site for a bit.

Thanks for sharing.

Cheers GB

This is how things started out on Thursday. More snow. But at least it wasn’t much.

Didn’t get much accomplished besides checking on the cattle and getting a start on the 4440’s SCV’s
e4560c8981db0fd12c1bff00bcd69e73.jpg

Aside from that there were some things that I had to help dad with. Then I quit early for something I rarely get a chance to do anymore.

Went for a small road trip to go see a show for the evening. I haven’t had a chance to do so in quite awhile.

Friday was back to putting out hay, feeding, and grinding feed for majority of the day.

But we ended up having a drastic change in weather and it was warmer, sunny, and no wind, which is rare. So I dropped what I was doing and decided to clean up the combines.
050b0b199f9958780ae0200062f15904.jpg
I got the dirt off the 9770 and washed it up.
d0d939a3cbea3be8fd83fd7c75d93e29.jpg
I also got majority of the dirt off the 9500.
A big part of this decision was in part to the fact that first thing of the morning the Deere mechanic who always inspects our combined yearly called me and said he wanted to do them this coming week. So I figured I’d get them cleaned up for him.

The 7230 was in bad need of a bath as well.
ce16b5395af020bafe07592ad98a493d.jpg
So it was washed off as well.
4ccea02b09f0649b701c5390a51696b1.jpg
Since the wheels were clean I was finally able to check and make sure my fitting I picked up for the wheel hub fits.
e6d94f0996b154896d2d9608de3f8741.jpg
If you’ve followed along the fitting is to adapt to a hose to help drain the hubs. It makes them easier to drain, makes less of a mess and allows me to work on something else instead of just holding a pain to catch the oil.

That was it for the most part.

Saturday was nice as well. Started a bit cloudy and foggy but at least it wasn’t cold.
56b835a15403ec0b862a772a22ea2835.jpg
So I washed up the 9500 decent.

Then I decided to wash my truck off. It hasn’t been washed from all the grime from the road the last few snows.
e2c0c6307beab3fd35799bdea9b79cf6.jpg
It got just a quick rinse. But it could use a deep clean soon.

After that I spent the rest of the day rebuilding all 3 of the SCV couplers on the 4440.
df4ebbb1e8f64d665a84abf46a2a5346.jpg
It took a little while. But I had them all apart, parts cleaned up, warn parts replaced, all new seals, oiled up, new gaskets and bolted back on to the tractor.

So that’s one job done. Next on the list is to replace the bushing in the front axle and remove the injector pump for repair. So it’ll be in the shop awhile.

e5afd7fb41b2976f3a71b92c015eaa6d.jpg
Now I just need to pick up a bunch of my stuff in my work space.

I haven't commented on your thread before, but I have read it from the beginning, and am subscribed now. My father and I have a small farm in central NC, raising beef, corn, soybeans, and barley. I appreciate your devotion to taking daily pictures and posting. Please take plenty of pics when you change the front axle bushing. Our 4430 takes very little grease on that bushing, and I really need to take it apart to check the bushing, and see why it won't take grease. I figure that I may as well replace it while I have it apart. I'd also appreciate a detailed breakdown of rebuilding the SCV's. Ours have been rebuilt twice since we have owned the tractor. The first time the dealer converted them over to Pioneer, and the second time we pulled them off and took them in to be rebuilt. We have a break in the weather this week as well, and I intend to get some N applied to our barley just ahead of the next rain.

That wash job sure made a difference! I never could figure out why people try and sell dirty equipment (esp at auction) it costs them in the long run.

Works good for us, I suppose.

Thanks. I’m not sure when I’ll get to the axle job. It may be awhile in between things. I also need to find a good tall, heavy pair of jack stands for it too.

As far as the SCV’s I don’t have any more pictures of them. Not sure when I’ll get around to do anymore of them. But they’re not difficult. When I did my first one I used one of the repair manuals as reference. Makes it easier to have a good set of picks for the seals and o-rings. Plus a couple good brass punches to keep from scaring things up.

We have a break just for another day then more rain on the way.

Yeah I can’t stand things to be that muddy and dirty. Especially, if something happens and requires some work.

Well I took the day off Sunday. But today it was back to normal. We fed hay everywhere. Then we had something different to do today.
01cd3556ac93ba71135fb2fcaf06ce72.jpg
MFA had a clinic with the Climate FieldView people today. The went over the process and features of the program and gave us some ideas on options to use the program with some of our older equipment. It was pretty informational. Plus, I got a cool new bottle opener.

This evening it was back to the shop. I picked up all my tools and things left over from Saturday. Then I went through several papers I had sitting around. I also worked on gathering up my notes on parts to order. Deere is having another parts sale this week. Gotta get my list together in the next couple days.

d8724015aa0029d2beb30eec4ce03ab6.jpg
One thing I had sitting around was some new dust covers for the SCV’s on the 8400. So I replaced those.

e0f9199a7f236a60e4950b109c365620.jpg
My new Milton filter and regulator came in. So hopefully, we can get it put up this week.

56a4db2ced5e0ac339a90710b481e27a.jpg
I wanted to make a couple more studs to have for things like the SCV’s so I knocked out a few of those I had sitting around.

7155a50e67f34c18827a472b316d0b48.jpg
Dad got a good deal on a new DeWalt FlexVolt grinder over the weekend. He used it for something. Then I decided to put a cutoff wheel on it and use it on those bolts.
f87f353701e9360350b682f67a9b2d51.jpg
It sure knows how to throw the sparks too! Enough to burn a hole it my shirt!

Later I decided to make a few additions to my cart I’ve been planning to do.
20edfeff1ac27584c48cd813ba7638bd.jpg
I had one u-bolt on the side. But I decided to add a few more u-bolts for hammers and pry bars and whatever else to hang off the side of the cart. Then drilled a few holes in the top of the handle to add a few grommets to hold some screwdrivers and picks too. I figured it’d help get some things out of my way when it’s cluttered up with a lot of parts and other tools.
b7dd79ba9c8911d1da4da19535d4075f.jpg
4b8715d1628412254cdd5ec8ebf541cd.jpg
I temporarily clamped a side shelf to it to see how I like it. It’s not really made for the cart but I think it’d be helpful. I might decide to find a way to mount it up.

1ddd087dd485abf746141d3f128b160f.jpg
I also got bucket pump to see if it’d work on my other cart. I’m thinking about maybe having a couple of those on the cart for engine and hydraulic oil. Then one for gearlube. Still leaving room for some funnels, drip trays and the like. But that project may have to wait awhile.

Started today out at the retirement farm.

Gave them corn and put out hay for them.

One of the younger of the bunch had her new calf with her. My guess is she had it some time yesterday early. I’ll have to be sure to check on it this week.

We had another meeting today. A meeting and training for Dicamba. Although we’re going to be using Liberty Link related products it’s not a bad idea to be regulated and educated on everything out there.

This afternoon I had a lot of errands to run and trips to make in town.

I forgot a picture but I loaded up 3 barrels of coolant and took it to the local radiator shop. They’re going to get rid of it for me. For a few of corse.

Met up with the Matco guy this evening too.

Not the most active day.

More rain moved in through the night on Tuesday.
c463b0e7ead4a641644fabd68cbe0548.jpg
I think we were at about 1-1/2” before the day was over.

I checked on all the young calves everywhere to make sure they were doing ok.

Also had to help dad get a start on the dreaded tax work....

a7b26cf632121180458dbe0610d1a73e.jpg
I got a short 1/4” extension, long 3/8” extension, pocket thermometer, engine turning tool, and another Versapro jump pack from the Matco guy. I had the Matco Extreme jump pack. But I had a problem with it and had to have it warrantied. But apparently they’re no longer providing it as an option anymore. So instead they gave me a new Versapro 2 and a mini as well, which I put in my girlfriend’s car.
7516648b2d272a58d258d186215069b1.jpg
I also picked up a SK 9/32” square socket. It’ll fit the plugs on the side of the block of several tractors where I can test the engine oil pressure.

We also picked up a good tall set of jackstands from CarQuest. They got them next day and knocked $40 off.
eda0e330af1e56512efbe15614842fb6.jpg

Matco guy had got me the engine turning tool. Supposed to be for Cummins, but it will work for a Deere.
79be7a28ff5022d5b8d06797906159c0.jpg
I got the pin from a place on line to lock the flywheel in place at TDC.
c2c355c45c48c35c44e5dac4c7b7cf95.jpg
Could I use something else besides this $40 tool to turn the engine? Probably. But it’s pretty quick and convenient.

So with the new tool I got things started to take the injector pump off.
a98c39d61d939a271545f06a7a2640fa.jpg
Took a little time. But it wasn’t bad. The worst part was actually taking the pump off.
b39db64a4a3dfc039e5aea8b86495200.jpg
But with the help from a drawer full of tools I got the pump off.

I also decided to try out the jack stands.

That was about it besides looking over some equipment for parts to order. I also checked on a few of the calves.

Today I checked on the calves first thing.

Unfortunately, one of the old cows at the retirement farm didn’t make it through the night. She’s been getting a bit slower lately. She wasn’t looking very good yesterday morning. But there wasn’t going to be much for us to do. She was just old. So this morning first thing I did was hauled her off to be buried.

I met up with the Snap On guy today.
9ec1c1e3a391d5aaf0c2dddd3eb2e8eb.jpg
Got the new large pick set and a few flat head and Phillips head bit sockets.

5d06b38b39e4062835ad8ee63b5977d6.jpg
We had more rain in the early morning hours. It was up to 3” this morning. We had a couple pretty big pour downs.
ddbd722cbbbcdd68f4515c74aec2da80.jpg
By afternoon it was almost another half inch.

Dad and I started on front axle on the 4440.

New jack stands in place we set the frame on the stands then used the floor jack to raise and lower the the axle. We took the wheels off to make things a bit easier.

7e086cc4064ae7e51183b378cab99a14.jpg
The rear bushing was a pain in the *** to move, while it was still on the frame. So we made our own puller. Threaded rod, piece of pipe and stuck it through the bushing, several turns of the wrench and we got it out.

As you can tell, the bushings are well past worn. This is something I should’ve noticed a couple years ago. They were flat out worn out. They needed to be replaced for sure.

So after running some numbers the parts for the axle, bushings, new bolts, shims and washers. The cost was right at $137. Not terrible I guess. So with that and the cost of the work for the SCV’s it’s up to $487.24 for work so far, that’s not counting the money to have the injector pump worked on yet. Pretty good junk of change to keep an old tractor running. But not terrible I guess.

Lots to do tomorrow. We’ll see how it goes. After the rain moved through the temperature dropped down from the mid 50’s this morning all the way to about 16 tonight. Pretty quick temperature change. It’ll be nice that it’ll freeze the mud up. But it definitely won’t be easy on the cattle.

Thanks for the pics. How many hours on the 4440? I'm afraid that our bushings are going to be worn through like that when we get it torn down. I need to try to find some stands like that for the job. We don't have a Carquest locally. Our NAPA is pretty good though. Was the axle housing worn enough that it will need attention?

Carquest was bought by Advance Auto. You should be able to get those through your local Advance.
I need to do the same thing on my little JD 301 Commercial I can feel that pin pop every now and then crossing a field. Been ignoring it for 6 mos now. Part for mine is more like $300

What an odd coincidence, I was going to ask what floor jack and jack stands y'all use. Or if you used wood cribbing.

One step ahead!

Yeah I definitely wanted some good stands for this job. None of the blocks we have I feel are secure enough to support this kind of weight. Not to mention it seems we’re running low on blocks anyway.

I feel like those jackstands were definitely a good investment as we can use them on a ton stuff. They’ll be real handy on the rear ends of the 2 cylinders.

There’s just over 7800 hours on the 4440. So it’s was definitely due for this job to be done. You should be able to find jackstands almost exactly the same from just about any automotive store. I was also considering NAPA. I just happened to try CarQuest first. It just worked out that the warehouse had them so I could get them next day. I imagine a lot of places I’d have to wait for them. My Matco guy said 2 weeks til he could get a set.

I haven’t even ever seen an Advance Auto. I could tell you where the nearest one is.

$500 dollars is pretty cheap to keep a ~130HP tractor going (that's probably still worth 30k). Think what a replacement would cost.

The cost for the SCV’s and the front axle isn’t bad. It’s the cost of getting the injector pump checked out that’s going to hurt a bit. Guaranteed to be at least $1,500. Granted dad said he doesn’t remember having to ever do anything to it before and the fact that it has almost 8000 hours on it it’s bound to happen sometime.

Friday came and was a pain in the ***.

I fed hay to all the cattle. Spread straw bales out for all of them as it became colder for the weekend.

Overnight one of the waterers froze up. I got things thawed out but then discovered a soldier on the water line in the water line had busted.

I cleaned things up and soldered the line back. Go things going again only to discover that now the float and valve weren’t working.
f6efbf68879eb3c44242e742bffb6ec6.jpg
So after having already made trips back and forth to the shop I made another to see if we had another valve to replace this broke one. I found an old used one and replaced it. But of corse that one turned out to be bad as well. So I let the water on just long enough for the cattle to get a drink then turned it back off til I could get a valve and float that weren’t broke.

I stopped by Deere to get some shims for the axle of the 4440 and to give them my list of parts to order for the parts sale this week. By the time I made a few more stops it was too late to make it anywhere to get a new valve for the waterer.

So Saturday morning first thing I did after a few more errands was get a new valve. I checked the cattle and dad and I put the new valve on. But then we experienced some issues with the pressure switch for the well. But finally we got everything going without any more issues! It took. A day and a half but it was finally going! Thank you winter!

Dad and I finally got around to splitting that load of wood we cut a few weeks ago. He was just about out.

My b-i-l brought me a radio that his brother had for my service truck. Mine hasn’t worked for several months now. So this job is on the to do list now.

Saturday afternoon we quit early.

Dad, my b-i-l and myself shot some ***** for awhile as today (Sunday) is his birthday. Saturday afternoon was chilly but not bad.

So today on Sunday we ended up with a bit of freezing rain in the early morning hours that made things a little slick. Luckily, things warmed up a bit and the freezing rain just became rain. So things thawed out.

We all went out for lunch for dad’s birthday. I’m trying to take the day to sort out all my last papers and receipts for taxes...that time of the year again...

On Saturday, the day before my dad’s birthday, would’ve been my grandpa’s birthday.

He would’ve been 100 this weekend.

So today is your dad's birthday? Happy Birthday! Mines tomorrow, looks like February is still birthday month.

Will the GM radio be a direct swap? I thought some of them had to be reset by a dealer otherwise they have some kind of theft software?

From what I know of it shouldn’t be any problem to swap the radio. My b-i-l acted like it shouldn’t be any problem.

Well the last few days haven’t been too busy. Aside from feeding, putting out hay and grinding feed, and putting out mineral there hasn’t been a whole lot going on.

We stuck the front axle back under the 4440. New bushings fit good and tight and everything bolted back up real well. It should be good to go. Now we’re just waiting on the injector pump.

So dad and I’ve been working on a few projects in the shop that haven’t been done. Not super important but thing we’ve wanted to get done.

Dad’s been working on a project for my sister’s preschool. Its a table for the kids to play with Lego’s at.

He’s been working on staining it and is going to glue the big squares down to the top.

We also finished putting things up for the air hose.
65060a2dc197a61622fbe2ca7ea49e5f.jpg
Since my larger toolbox was able to fit just right in beside the regulator and filter for the air hose I decided to leave things set up how I recently put things.

Since I decided to leave things I made up a little something real quick to fill the empty corner.
c8a1d6a4812eaf8b9fb025735defe3f7.jpg
I made it all front scrap stuff we had laying in the barn.
9f564ad4f9361176d544eb7e0c8c3cf3.jpg
It was super square or fancy but it fit just right in the corner and just about completely flush with the top of the smaller box.
2be93a4c5eb94a87a34ea128fdb3b5e5.jpg
I put some liner on top of it and put my stereo there for now.

We also started work on another project.

The table looks good - nice butcher block

It’s actually flooring for semi-truck van trailers. One of my aunt’s husbands came across literally a ton of it (or more) several years ago. So there’s a large pile of it in the barn.

The whole family has used it for a lot of things. We’ve used it for the floor in deer blinds. My uncles made the wheel chair ramp for my dad out of it. My b-i-l used it for an office desk top. A cousin of mine has used it for her counter tops in 2 different houses. A few people have used them for bar tops. I have a few pieces set aside to use as a work bench top in my basement. We even used it to make a short ramp inside the van trailer we keep the pulling tractors in.

It won’t be set up quite like pictures but I’m getting an idea of how I want to set up my line cart.

I’m thinking of adding to it to hold cans and quart containers on the sides. Plus hooks to hold drip trays and what not.

It’s some pretty stout stuff so it works really well. Plus has locking grooves. If you run it through a plainer and put a finish on it it can really turn out well.

I’m actually using some more of it in a project today! I’ll post it later.

Definitely two thumbs up to you for the way you are always incorporating efficiency and organization into your shop projects. [emoji106][emoji106]

Thanks. After somehow ending up in charge of just about everything shop related in the last 10 years I’ve just tried to make things easier on myself. There’s so much **** to keep up with I want to know where things are at when I’m in the shop or just running in to grab something real quick.

With the addition of the live cart the idea is just to save time. All the oil and what not is all kept out in the truck shed. So in order to change oil in one of the tractors in the shop it’s usually a trip or two to the truck shed for drip pan and buckets to drain oil and filters. Then it’s usually at least a couple more trips to the truck shed for new oil since the only thing we currently have to transfer from the bulk tank are 2.5 gallons jugs. So that’s at least 2 trips. Then if I need any gear line or coolant or something like that for what I’m working on. Then that’s another trip or two out to the truck shed. It takes me 40 minutes just to get things ready to do the job. If I had it all on a cart I can maybe just limit that to 2 trips instead of 6.

Well yesterday I pretty well wrapped up the one project I was working on.

Made the military cabinet and the 4 drawer mobile. Used some more of those van trailer floor boards for the top. Left some open storage on the bottom and added a small shelf on the side. There may be some additions for storage in the future.

I’m trying to decide what all to put in it. I’m also wanting to come up with a new way of storing o-rings.

That’s not even all of them...
c2a34c4afcc4fb331d0621e36941c4d1.jpg
I’m considering using the same type of container I used for my kit for the truck cuz it can fit in the top compartment.

Also something different for my hydraulic cap and plug kits.

They waste space in the drawers.

But I took them from 6 boxes down to 3.

So aside from that. The addition of the air line and the new cart. The work space is really coming together.

If you noticed in that picture...some good news, dad got the call that the injector pump was done, so he picked it up.

It’s all ready to go. Except I still haven’t got the new seals for the oil lines to the pump. But at least it’s done.

Had to make a stop in town and happen to run in to the Snap On guy.

So I picked up a few things up. Even dad got a few things.

I also had a 9/32” wrench from eBay arrive.
c8263e0cd5cf5b81e62376ae144f1dcd.jpg

That was the highlights for the day. This picture will show you why I always cover up and plug open areas and lines on things like engines in the shop.

My uncle decided to cut and plain some board right next to the 4440...

Today I had some extra help. Zack was off school today and came to help me. We fed hay. And checked on the cattle. But the weather gradually worsened through the day. Snow and sleet which led to heavier snow which led to freezing rain.
fd90b8ee26bbb24e7c36cbe72296b273.jpg
Dad finally got his golf cart going and out of the shop. That only took about 8 months or so.

Since Zack was there he helped me with some side projects I’ve had on my list for awhile. We cleaned out the shed where we keep the mineral and the like.

We also started on cleaning out the shed by the grains bins where we keep things for the bins and a ton of old hay tarps. So we drug everything out of the shed, in the snow, some things are going to be moved! That’s for sure! But we’re going to have to wait for a nicer day to unfold all the tarps to check for rips and tears and fold them up properly.

We also worked on sorting some miscellaneous bolts that have been sitting around in a bucket for quite awhile. A few years I’m pretty sure...but it was a good chance to teach Zack ways to identify differences between SAE and metric bolts. Also, difference in sizes and thread pitch.

But the weather continued and I had to get Zack home. His mom was a little nervous about driving down the road. So we quit a little early.

Not much activity for the weekend. Checked on the cattle. Then some stuff in the shop.
df64d16a05f72c395249b26dec00e962.jpg
Got a new 1/2” air hose. Also got some new Ernst rails for some of the wondering sockets in the toolbox.
37722dc129d0fef06ae5f7ea3a2754d2.jpg
Put several of the SK 1/2” drive 12 points sockets from SK Club on a rail, the flathead and Phillips head sockets on a rail, also one for swivels and adaptors and one for all my spark plug sockets.

There have been 3 buckets full of miscellaneous hardware that came in the old military cabinet when dad bought it. Since there’s been a bit of time I decided to get them sorted before it gets put off for another year.

That’s just a hint of what was poured out on the cart to sort through.

Checked on the cattle again today. Then I decided to do a few small jobs I’ve been meaning to do for awhile that aren’t major or really necessary to some people. But I wanted them done and know I won’t have time this coming week to do so.
cc9fd3b00477e809dfdf60d1cfe644cb.jpg
So I broke out a few things
eeda9978fd029b28bea7d0689badbc69.jpg
First I labeled everything in the breaker box in the shop. One reason being that my uncle never seems to realized which breaker is for the air compressor. Secondly, because the box never has been labeled since it was redone...about 12 years or so ago...

While I was at it I relabeled all the breaker boxes for all 8 bins at the house.

All but the 2 newest bins are unreadable anymore. It’s just nice to know which breaker is which, especially if I’m not the one turning them on. I just hope the labels stay.

So I still have a few things to sort through from the buckets. But I got through a lot of it. Luckily most of it I was able to get in bin on the bolt bench.

There are some larger things that I’m not sure where I’ll store, if we ever actually use them is another question.

Like the likes of some of these...but I suppose I can hold on to some of it for awhile. It may be handy.

I know these will be...should I be able to get them sorted a bit more.

We were more than well stocked on cotter keys before. We shouldn’t have to buy any for years...maybe even a decade or so...

So...like I’d mentioned we had some more winter weather...

Then it warmed back up today. Getting warmer for a few days. Which of corse means back to more and more mud. Then more moisture come Tuesday Wednesday and more by the end of the week into the weekend.

We’re currently well above the average amount of rainfall for so far in the year. It’s been nothing but wet and mud. It’s been tiring. I just hope things can dry up a bit soon.

I’ve heard a lot of guys say they don’t remember having a winter with this much rain in a lot of years, or even ever. I recall several muddy winters. But I’m starting to think that this may be the muddiest I recall as well. I’m sure by spring it’ll dry up. Likely dry up for good when we don’t want it to.

Cotter keys....lol, I just bought a couple thousand for the shop last summer when one supplier I use had them on sale. Managed to find some washers I needed on evilbay and ended up with 8900 of them for the same price as 1k of them from my normal suppliers.

There's nothing wrong with buying Hardware in bulk, minus trying to sort through all of it like the OP.

If I'm planning a decent sized project I just buy new as opposed to trying to find 8 matching bolts etc; the time saved is worth the $1.60

Another day of feeding hay. Dad & I also spread out straw for all the cattle today too.

After doing the feeding I took a trip to Deere to get the parts I ordered for the parts sale. Not everything is in yet. But I wanted the stuff for the 4440.
bbdf0f3b47de7e44feca2cd827934ae4.jpg
I picked it up and sorted through most of it. Although I didn’t check my list to double check and make sure everything was correct and nothing was missed. But I plan to do that later.

I also finished sorting the last of the hardware from the buckets this afternoon.
124bebf36fda8ee524e72c6692b159d5.jpg
But that led to another item to add to the list of weekend projects which is organizing the bolt bench cabinet. It’s a disaster! It doesn’t help that dad had recently went digging for nails and screws for the last few projects that he did. It seems like I have to redo this thing every winter.

So since I finally had the stuff for the 4440 I went back to it.

After finishing a few other jobs in the shop I got things ready to put the injector pump back on.
885ba826daa065278b900619a3e7f41f.jpg
I eventually got it back on and all hooked up again. I triple checked to make sure everything was timed correctly before I hooked all the lines back up. So I’m hoping it should be good to go.

I stopped for the evening after I finished hooking everything back up. I did a little research on what I need to do should I need to make some adjustments after I get it going again. But I still need to bleed the whole system and change the fuel filters. Plus while I have the valve cover off I want to check the valve clearance while I have a chance. Then put it back, and everything else. Then I just need to look a few more things over on it and it’ll be time for a good cleaning on it. I’m not sure how it’ll work out to do that this week. But hopefully I can get it done and out by the end of the week and move something else in!
