it fits containers. uhhh cool. thanks.

Yeah. A little vague. The one adaptor fits the plastic spouts for 5 gallon bucket lids. I did find an adaptor that goes from the bucket spout to a 70mm cap which is found on lots of common 5-16 gallon containers that are an HDPE plastic approved for oil.

Like these closed pail style containers. Which might work. I haven’t decided yet. I think those would at least be better then the buckets.

I’d like to find a container similar with 2 lids so I could just leave the pump stem in one and fill it in the other.

Well New Years Eve was pretty much another day.
e3fcde3891c43cc126e974b2969fda1e.jpg
Fed hay at the retirement farm.
aa7a245991fb6d135016f4383908e4c9.jpg
Checked on and fed corn to all the cattle and calves.

Got the truck and trailer ready for dad for his pulling tractor trip.

5b8b32040d0ec891916c426bd23f1f8e.jpg
Got the spare tire mounted, and mount fixed.

Then my uncle’s truck had a brake line blow
7d799914f913fd99705ac8e3551ea83a.jpg

Noah was with me for part of the day. We had to make a trip to Deere. Picked up some parts.

Then it was back to work on the 7510.
3c35bb7e686fa964338057339a91fe90.jpg
The fuel tank vent had came loose so we had to get it pulled back in place.

It was low on coolant so I decided to pressure check it.
ccad827353315a445f6e41d72b2d5efd.jpg
Sure enough it lost pressure. Then I saw a leak at the drain plug. The plastic drain plug.
1eb70bcbbb5a86773fc3fbfb39ef3314.jpg
Which is tightly fit in between the lower radiator hose and the hose from the overflow too.
0207878785c7c5bcb59900a8d24fdfa9.jpg
Then I found out it was broke off. How I’m not sure. So the threaded part was still on the plug hole.

So I used my new Macnaught suction gun to **** out some of the radiator.

77e9ca64b97db356ceeb5440afdd8874.jpg
It works really well.

So I got the overflow emptied. Then ended up pulling off the lower hoses.
4328d044ab8a90377320dc2b3eff7070.jpg
Luckily, my b-i-l happened to stop in and have me an idea to get out the rest of the broken plug.
4daccca4daf6814a911f9887f3695825.jpg
We heated up a old spare screwdriver tip and burned it into the remainder of the plug and managed to back it out. That worked great!

So that part was done. But I knew my uncle was going to get cranky about his truck.
467a04c1e8481d46b4dc417b076d26f1.jpg
So I pulled it in the truck and got the bad line off of it.
8cc73c2c99a5228ec47840a1a841830a.jpg
So I got it pulled off finally. Naturally it was a rusty pain.

But then I ended up calling it a day early. The girlfriend wanted me home early to go out for New Years.

So for New Years I ended up taking the day off. Took it pretty easy. Had some lunch with friend and then some more over for the evening for a game of Risk and a few beers. So it was a pretty good start to the year I guess.

But tomorrow it’s right back to it. Lots I wanted to get to. Just have to find the time to fit it all in.

Happy New Year to everyone.

Not many shots from today. Noah was with me again today. We checked on all the cattle this morning after a day off yesterday. We also ground a batch of feed for the calves.

My dad and uncle were prepped and ready to go by ten for the tractor pull tomorrow.

We had to haul off a load of beans. So we loaded the truck and hauled it off. Then some errands in town.

This afternoon we did some work to the door on the 7230. Then fixed the brake line on my uncle’s truck. It was not as quick of a fixed as I’d like being that the brakes didn’t want to bleed. But we got it done. Then we helped my b-i-l get the air out of the power steering on dad’s F-250 that was causing problems.

The day was a little busy. Cloudy and cool with a few small rain showers off and on as well. With the pull tractors out of the way I hope we can actually get something done tomorrow.

So the 7230 door has been having some issues. The hinges are worn, the latch and striker are well worn and the shock for the door is completely shot. I had all the parts, except for one hinge to replace everything. So Noah and I worked on that this afternoon.

The window is held to the hinges with P4 head screws. Now being that a 4 Phillips head really isn’t that common for anything we work on the only P4 tool I have is one Craftsman screwdriver.

Naturally the screw didn’t want to move. Not matter how much I tried to turn the screwdriver it wouldn’t move. Then it wasn’t to twist out the head. I wasn’t going to deal with that. So I tried vise grips to help me out. Not matter how tight I put them on they wouldn’t hold on the screwdriver. So I quickly decided we had to do something different.

Since Craftsman/Western Forge screwdrivers aren’t made with a hex bolster I decided to put Noah to the test again.

I grabbed a 7/16” nut, took a die grinder to the threads to knock them down a little and had Noah weld the nut to the screwdriver. He had a little trouble getting the welder set just right. But he got it on there. Best part was that it worked. I was able to put a wrench on it and push the screwdriver on the head tight and sure enough it popped loose. He was glad to see it worked. I think I’m going to let him keep it later.

A little trick on balky screws like that...put a tip in a socket on a speed handle. Drill a golf ball to fit tightly on the end of the speed handle to let you put way more force on the end of it. We have some screws that get balky at work and often have one guy leaning on the handle while the second one turns.

That’s not a bad approach. I may have to look into that. Only one speed handle laying around and it’s pretty rusty.

With reluctant bolts/screws, I give the relative tool a whack with the appropriate hammer, works most of the time. :lol_hitti

Usually I wouldn’t hesitate to give something a good whack but considering this particular screw was through the large piece of glass that is the door I didn’t feel to comfortable getting carried away.

Well I’ve got some catching up to do. I’ll just keep it short. Last part of the week wasn’t the most productive.

Noah and I took care of the cattle. Feed, hay, mineral, etc.

We got a rain and it made things nice and muddy.

Thursday dad and my uncle left for the tractor pull. Dad apparently did pretty good in a few of his weight classes.

In addition to taking care of the cattle Noah and I got a few things now in the shop and got some other jobs done as well.

He got to make his first trip on to the Snap On truck. I gave him one of the orange pocket screwdrivers to keep. That and the Craftman screwdriver I had him weld a nut on.

We got the 8400 somewhat cleaned up and in the shop.

Saturday I took care of the cattle and finally cleaned up and boiled out my deer skull.

So I’ve been trying out the Macnaught stuff lately too.
8d54b83d806c7a994df07af9c8aa53d8.jpg
Found a way to have it fit the 2.5 gallon jugs. Not sure I’ll use it like that but I thought I’d try it.
fbbb7357f2a6ca1ce313b3eef3e4b13c.jpg
But a jug with a pump stem on it is too tall to fit in the truck box.

I also tested it out on a bucket full of SAE140 too. It didn’t do too bad when it was warmer. About 2.3 minutes per gallon. Considering it how heavy it is.

I’m waiting on parts for the 7510 so I started on another job that needed attention on it.

The shock that allows the tilt of the steering wheel we out. So that meant a completely taking apart the dash.

Today was another day.

Got a good early start and checked on all the cattle.

But then it was time to start hauling beans.

I took one truck and dad took the other.

That pretty much summed up the day. I hauled 3 loads, dad hauled two. Then I loaded up and fueled both trucks so they were ready to go for tomorrow.

Did a few things to the 7510 too.

Also I got things set to try out electrolysis on the file I found metal detecting.

Saw a couple pics of your Dad's pullers on another social media I have. Don't know his real name, but CircleCFarms is somewhere in MO as well and he competes with you fellas. He had pics of some tractors at the pull and I managed to catch the CliftonBros sticker on one.

I know they make it on some Facebook pages once in awhile. They’ve made it in ‘The Hook’ magazine each a handful of times as well. I think my uncle may have even been put on the cover once with the 70 if I remember right.

Keeping things short and sweet today.
00b818a47e6342a05eda87b0f604e635.jpg
After feeding calves and checking cattle I hauled beans all day today.
28ae58418848629a9d95d149ff793200.jpg
Only had to sit in line once.
d7b1c162a67989bb5f7c7681da6d56da.jpg
Just 3 more loads and we’ll have both current contracts for beans filled.

Plan is to get the last 3 loads off tomorrow and then likely get the feeding done.

Rain is moving in tomorrow night and it looks like a lot of it on the way for Friday and Saturday.

The storm looks like it could be one this year...so far....batten down the hatches! Over here, I got the snowblower prepped and ready, 4 five gallon buckets of salt, and a full tank of gas in the 4x4...got to top off the gas cans in case I need a generator. Looks like it will hit just west of me, here in the NW suburbs, and we will get side swiped.... but you just can't tell...better to be safe than sorry!

Well luckily here it won’t be quite that bad. Too much rain. But both air and ground temperature should be high enough to avoid much winter precipitation. There’s a chance of it. But we’ll see how it goes.

Not a very exciting time today.

The day started out nice. But the wind set in pretty good as the day went on.

Dad and I each hauled off a load of beans. Then I loaded a truck for him to haul off the last load.

While he did that I ground a batch of feed and did a few things around the shop.
b0b5e441587a9b3aed74fa3dabb8bb2a.jpg
It was windy enough I had to prop the lid for the feeder open so I could unload the feed.

With all the chance of rain for tomorrow dad and I fed hay so we won’t have to do it in the rain tomorrow.
06cf76cd482d65e734b2933f9c740a33.jpg
All the cattle all got a little extra hay and some straw to lay on.

After that dad had some paper work to do and I headed to Deere. The 7230 battery went out yesterday. So I got a battery and they had the part for the 7510 dash.
b34982f870b80b9238b685264e85c6cf.jpg
So maybe I can get some stuff done tomorrow.

A little trick on balky screws like that...put a tip in a socket on a speed handle. Drill a golf ball to fit tightly on the end of the speed handle to let you put way more force on the end of it. We have some screws that get balky at work and often have one guy leaning on the handle while the second one turns.

Only AMTs know :lol_hitti

Or a hand impact once you get or make a bit.

Meanwhile this evening I started trying to redo these filter list I made up several years ago.
View attachment 965551
One for each tractor and it’s filters. The other as a cross reference listing each filter and which tractors it applies to. Had to add the 4010 and some filters have changed numbers.

Also have to update a similar list with all the serial numbers for tractors and implements.

I have a set of each in the toolbox in the shop, the truck, at home, and dad is supposed to have a set as well.

A couple of additional ideas
Always have a small pot of valve lapping compound for removing stubborn screws. Stop before you strip the head and dip the end of you screwdriver in the lapping compound and it helps keep the driver from caming out of the fastener. The most important thing is downward pressure towards the head of the screw and that the screw driver stays perpendicular to the screw in both planes the idea of the speed handle and the two people above is doing exactly that.

When the head is already trashed the way to get it out is to use a short spiral easyout, mine is a 30 year old snap-on 104, which looks very much like a Irwin Hanson 53201 http://www.irwin.com/tools/screw-bo...d-multi-spline-screw-extractors-522532-series which will be much cheaper than the snap-on version. You dril a 1/8" hole in the Phillips recess until the cross just disappears but no more. This seems to be the sweat spot of enough wall to grip while still enough screw left to not just break the head off. Dip the tip of the easyout in the valve lapping compound and with a small hammer tap it down into the hole. Using a short 1/2" socket and your 3/8" ratchet you can get lots of torque and you can apply lots of downward pressure while keeping the rotation perpendicular to the screw.

I guess aircraft maintenance gets more stripped screws than most professions as we have so many cover / access panels etc. to take off.

Hope this helps.

Friday was a regular day. Rain didn’t set in til later in the day.

Checked on and gave all of the cattle corn.

So I found out Deere still didn’t have all the parts for the 7510.
52daca2293018c87ba022d1ca7706110.jpg
But at least I had the stuff to put the dash back together.
e0f62a319a4182f4ec4f1e5065af52c4.jpg
I started putting the new shock in for the steering tilt. It has a real pain in the *** pin to install to attach the tilt handle.
e0320654620b1094a7bef21c929e551f.jpg
But in the midst of putting it in the pin broke. So the closest thing I could find was a slightly larger roll pin.
40619521b40c2d2be5f287f67680427f.jpg
So I tried to get the roll pin in with the help of a pinch. But it wasn’t helping out much.
dcfbf11c114b343e664d8f387cae1273.jpg
But finally with the roll pin punch and a former welding rod turned punch I got the roll pin in.
ba3166458141a31a154fca84eb006b7f.jpg
As I started to put things together, I thought I’d check it out. But now the new shock didn’t want to stay in place it just made the wheel go all the way up, opposite of the broke once which just wanted to go down.
25eb95601a5314ac3c41b6f6fea0ea29.jpg

So I took the steering rod out of the cab. For some reason the handle was hitting the the top of the shock, making the pin in the top of the shock stay engaged making the shock extend fully.
2880b83f73cea69814cc54595a3df13a.jpg
It was a tight space so I used my hand saw to trim off the back of the handle so it would go back further releasing pressure on the pin in the shock.
debaf54d5a2ea3d24077c16362a9c8d9.jpg
After all the headache I had to take a break.

262fe02b6fd47b3fc4801a4446740717.jpg
I had to make a trip to the recycling center to haul off a bunch of cardboard. Leftover from the holidays.

915139e0beefeae3d5a60684f215ffba.jpg
So finally I got everything back together. Dash was all back together and the tilt for the steering was working.

b550e3ee1b8114e6ea6b929cb4f977b1.jpg
I also continued the electrolysis on the file. It was working.

Picked up a Snap On set of straight pry bars. These should come in handy.

Between the River Hills & the River Bottom

For the weekend I checked on the cattle.

As far as work goes that was about it. Besides talking with the owners of the retirement farm and giving them their check for their share of beans.

Also, between late Friday and into Saturday we had a total of 4.5” all together. Nice and muddy again. Looks like this year is starting off like last year did.

Did a little metal detecting today back by the old house where I went last. Mainly just a ton of nails everywhere.

Finished the electrolysis on the file. Wiped it down and used a wire brush to finish it up.

It’s pretty pitted. Not exactly useable but at least you can tell it’s a file now. Plus, if I ever do find something good I know how to clean it up now.

Let’s get caught up.
b17a47a1e05e8f717217021febcd52d9.jpg
The day started off like usual.
5ec5f615c7e652809ca29f9da490f4b4.jpg
Followed by more feed and mineral.
daf0330c54fd352f5fc2ea28edb8a1d0.jpg
It was a gloomy cool morning. Dad had a levee district meeting to go to. While he was there I did some other stuff.
67f75bfa2e2ff7e5ef0c7ac1449c596c.jpg
I had to file some more stuff for the semi trucks.

Then I tried to get back to the shop. Since I was waiting on some stuff for the 7510 I decided to do some stuff to the 8400.
b1a59a69435aa8ecf0081514421e3e47.jpg
First thing I had to do was clean out the cab. It looks like dad was living in it this fall. I think we’re going to have to have a talk about this.

By afternoon dad and I fed hay to all the cattle.
c835ab635c6fd60cd3c1ddab8f066342.jpg
All was good that morning. But by afternoon we had problems.
843872d6c75245a5ec6ff3225ed53f29.jpg
One of the old cows turned herself over. We had her set up right. But by the time we finished feeding hay she was rolled back over again. So we had to roll her back on her belly again.

Then back to dad’s and two calves were out.
d4403f7db435a6f16b4f51bd73bfbf53.jpg
Got them back in and then we had another issue.
fc33a3ff9c4201d92a973d4468e35dfd.jpg
Not sure which side was to blame but some how one of the gates was knocked off the hinges. So some of the heifers ended up with the cows.
0041f2f73a28a84f8ee395aac8a205de.jpg
Then I at least got the oil drained in the 8400.

Then I had to head out as I had an extension meeting.

Started off Tuesday by checking all the cattle.
8ca8e1edf2046daddf8c5ecdcbb566a5.jpg
Unfortunately, the cow we had problems with Monday afternoon didn’t make it over night.
24b6716fc02c0c3944cc6b5efb3ed990.jpg
But being we had the mix up with the heifers getting in with the cows I finally talked dad into moving cattle like he’s been talking about for a few weeks now.

We separated the old cows out of the group at dad’s and moved them over with some of the rest of the older cows.
0e9ce7ee442b590ed2063b8dc898a2f3.jpg
Now we have all the young heifers all together at dad’s. We moved the older angus bull with the older cattle. The heifers will be with the new young bull.
98d87bcc8701872d200b62c17c3d4be5.jpg
Since we moved the angus bull, we moved ole ‘About Time’ to a separate kit at dad’s. We’ll keep him around for awhile. But he’s retired for now. We’ll likely sell him by spring.

Then being we had moved cows around I checked on fences.
f5338ed88e785eba791b8673b0ff8c58.jpg
I made sure the electric was working to full strength, despite some leaning post.

f40c5a08f9d09251028b46539d9a03b4.jpg
The new young gun wasn’t too impressed by the sight of ‘About Time’ on the other side of the fence.
