I have not had time to reconstruct the outdoor kitchen that was dismantled to allow construction of the new patio last fall, but the Mrs. wanted to grill out the last several weekends. Having enjoyed meals from some friends kamado style grill's; I thought I would give one a try.
I was going to buy the "nest" that is offered by the dealers, but it's a bit limited in it's usefulness, then I looked at building a table out of wood. As I was kicking things around, I remembered we had a old stainless steel back bar table that was here when we bought the house 12 years ago. Following are some pictures of the build process, not complicated and only took about three hours start to finish. Just thought I would share:
The table as I started after removing the original 8" long legs and cleaning it up a bit.
Measuring the OD of the egg using a couple of framing squares as a makeshift caliper and some cardboard scraps to hold them at the right height (12"). Conclusion, hole should be right at 21"
The circle guide for the plasma cutter, made from scrap aluminum bar 10.5" center to center to result in 21" hole.
The completed table after adding some casters and assembling the egg.
We enjoyed some delicious burgers last night, 450 degrees - 3 minutes each side, shut of the air supply and let them dwell for 2 minutes. Yummy, should have done this years ago.
