Stumbled across these ratchets by BGS
http://www.bgstechnic.de/category.php?id=62
and noticed that a lot of the look like Harbor Freight rats... like the extenable and nylon fiberglass ones. They also have a Stanley twist handle style and an Astro Pneumatic style one.

Where I'm going with this is, where do I find a cheaper source for the locking flex head version they have?

Would like to try it out and see how it compares to Armstrong/Matco locking flex head rats.

For starters; handle looks shorter, lower tooth count, and fewer locking positions.

I don't believe that first one is a locking flex, it just has detents. On a side note... You can find that style of ratchet rebranded thru many US distributors Titan, ezred, Hf and powerbuilt just to name a few. There are overseas companies that will make that design in any color/flavor you desire, I suspect that is all "Bgs" in your link is doing as It seems the description is for 10 ratchets. If your heart desires you can also find direct links to those china companies, and if you have the need you can purchase that style 100 or better at a time. I'm not fully versed in the import ratchet market, but I don't know of any current production locking flex (not articulating) ratchets outside of matco, snap on or Armstrong.

Yeah, I guess, I misinterpreted the description; understood "securely adjustable" as locking

Plus it looks like it has a locking button

Well I was wondering what that lower button/slide was on your original picture, seems like a lot missing steel in that joint to accomidate that locking mech. I've never actually seen that Stanley variation... Is it a current production?

Yes, current production. Husky version at HD for $20 and Stanley version at Walmart for $30. They both also come with SAE sockets.

The collar on the neck is for handle extension

and the little button on the side is to unlock the flex head.

I played with an extendable handle version at HF but did not like the slop. That's why I was wondering if there's a version out there with just the locking flex head.

The link you gave for the bgs ratchet mentions it secures in five positions--to me this means it locks.
I am sure Monte on the Tools from the Old World thread knows about this ratchet, I wonder if it is quick release also.

Gripen,

I am sure Ash (GJ member) can order for you the BGS locking flex ratchet. You would have to call or e-mail him (both on website) on price and order wait time for the interested ratchet. Here is the BGS ratchet page on his German-Hand-Tools website: http://german-hand-tools.com/ratchets.html. Ash has provided exceptional service and fast shipping to myself and many other GJ members on NWS pliers.

It is a locking flex, but you will not find it in the USA. It is made in taiwan with 45t. But have not seen any of the taiwan importers like titan or powerbuilt import that model. I have seen it in germany. But never really played with it.
