Bi-fold Garage Door

My father had a pre-fab metal boat garage put up at his lake property. It came enclosed on 3 sides. After one winter he wanted to close the front to keep debris and other unwanted things out. He wanted a 10' high x 16' wide door. The challenge was based on the shape and height of the garage it wouldn't accomodate that size of opening with an overhead door. After much thought about options a bi-fold door was thought to be the best option. I am not aware of being able to purchase something like that so I designed and built a custom bi-fold door. Here's pics of the build.

Building the door panels with 16 GA. metal studs. Used 16 gauge so I could weld hinges and locking hardware. Made 4 door panels. Fortunately had family help. Took 3 days from start to finish.

Hanging the door frames on a track mounted to the header.

Door frames were hung and adjusted for a tight fit and skinned the sides of the opening.

Skinned the door frames and installed custom sliding pin locks on the two ends and between the two bi-fold doors. Added rods to secure the door to the top and bottom. Since the door was 10' high the upper rods were about 4' long and made guides and brackets for the rods to rest in. This was to secure it for the strong winds. The 2nd photo was taken without one of the doors secured so it's not showing tight in that photo. Overall happy with the project but an overhead door is a better option of you have the height to accommodate.

Very slick with the track. Do they open to each side or all towards one side of the building?

Because of the track and trolley system the doors can go to either side or all on one side it offers flexibility. Unfortunately I don't have any good pics of the doors open looking straight on. I don't have any pics of the latches either. I will post them when I can get some more pics.
