Bicycle parking?

My bikes go in my house in their own bedroom where they are locked to the wall. As a person in the cycling industry, my bikes are worth a heck of a lot more than my 01 Camry and 09 Civic and it shows in how they are treated.

At my house, the garage is for the bikes and ski gear. The cars get parked out front in the driveway where they belong. :D

Over the years, I have found the best storage is using bike hooks on gladiator channels so that I can hang the bikes by a wheel (see the first and last pic). I prefer this method since I can get the most bikes in the smallest area (I.E. alternate one hanging by front tire one hanging by rear) Plus this method works with all frame designs, suspension types and wheel sizes and widths. So I can use the same rack system for the entire quiver.

Flip a pallet on end. Attach base support to each side. Trim openings to fit variety of wheels. Width of stand can be tweaked by how many bikes you have.

If I had a room, with a (cleanable) floor, with a clear path of hard surfaced (cleanable) floor from the front door, I'd probably do something similar…

minus the locks. I don't live in that kind of neighborhood. Nor own that kind of bikes. I only have one that would be worth filing a homeowners claim on, but I also have an attached garage and we pretty well keep the door shut.

Guys guys guys, the answer is simple. A garage is for cars. Bikes go in sheds, hence the term 'bike-shed'. Build a shed in the garden/yard and keep the bikes in there.

After having two bikes stolen out of our shed, my bikes moved inside behind a door that can't be cut open with tin snips.

We commute to work on our bikes, so while they're not THAT valuable, losing them is a huge inconvenience. Also, I hate thieves.

I'm dedicating a shed to bike storage and parts/accessories.

All the bikes have quick release hubs, so front forks will secure to the wall. Rear tires on the floor.

Extra tubing, helmets, gloves, water bottles and parts will be on a shelf above.

Front tires/wheels will mount between bikes, on the floor.

The shed is 4' deep by 8' tall by 10' wide. The whole front of the shed is one open double door, for easy access.

I use this on 2 full size bikes, and keeps them up out of the way. If we rode them more frequently, I might look for a quicker release/hanging method however (simple hook like many use probably).

I use there for two bikes and two kayaks in my garage. They are a huge space saver. It takes maybe 15 seconds to raise or lower a bike.

Here is what I use. I have 2. They link together, if you want. Fold up small when not in use. So far I have been happy with them. I got one of them on Amazon. Sorry about the crappy phone pics.

If you have the ceiling height, a hoist is the easiest solution. Menard's has one for $10 and will lift up to 40 lbs;

How is the quality of these? I've been wanting to build something with a similar design for my Burley trailer. I'm also thinking about getting a few of those for lesser used bikes.

Quality is junk from the store. Some mods to make them better is to crush the metal on each sides of the pulleys too keep the rope from jumping off. Tying a knot at the point that the bike is on the ground but will keep you from losing the rope to the ceiling. removing the hooks on the bottom and putting eye bolts in the hook holes and unis straps. (the hooks like to become loose when you are raising lowering the bike and it becomes unlevel also i only have 2 hands and would get frustrated when i would get the seat hooked the handle bars hooked then go to raise it up and one would come off) Also alot of plastic and rivets so be weary of hanging them over the cars or if you may walk under them. I don't really trust them and I think something could be DIY built with better quality for about twice as much.

Does anyone have a good design or idea for parking of bikes in the garage? I have limited room to park 3 bikes (two adult, 1 childs).

Over the winter I hand them on the wall out of the way. But this is a huge hassle for the summer when we use the bikes a lot. It does not help that the two adult bikes are downhill mountain bikes without a kickstand even.

How about 2 2x4 that are the length of the wall height stood on end with a single pulley system hooked to the center stem with a carabiner. You use the pulley to raise lower the bike and the 2x4s guides and keeps the bike upright from the wall.

Thanks. Sounds like I'm making my own then.

I use them for our bikes. They work pretty well. The upside is you can also clamp hooks into the support rail in the spaces between the bikes. Handy to use for garden tools, the bike tire pump, etc. That and you can slide them left/right to allow for wider handlebars. It's also hung just high enough to allow for a broom to slide underneath for cleaning the floor.
