Bicycle pumps

I have a Silca pump, had it for years, bought it thinking it was probably pretty good, and now even my wife likes it. WAF is rare in a bicycle pump.

i have a specialized airtool pro pump that is just awesome. i originally got it to fill tires on my mopeds but i have found that it is so strong it can even fill car tires! not just compact cars, either, i've pumped up 17s on my cadi with it too. incredible quality in a hand pump.

I never understood the Silca friction-fit head. Never could get it to operate without popping off. I've heard of people fitting Hirame heads to the Silcas, but that's a $75 head for a $50 pump...

Hmmm I wish him well but not sure it'll sell. Sounds like he's not concerned w price. I swore by Silca for years but these days there are better pumps for less $ with more features.

Key is only using it on Presta valves, for starters, and then only using unthreaded valvestems. Not sure why threaded valvestems came about at all, but they don't serve a purpose I can see. They destroy pump-head gaskets in all varieties of pump.

I haven't had any pump head problems for years using Blackburn two stage pumps on generic threaded stem presta tubes. OTOH, I don't get many flats either. I'm on a mountain bike so the 2-stage is almost a necessity, high-volume, then high-pressure.

FWIW, I'm not sure what is special about a Silca head that would drive you to select tubes based on the pump, but I respect your dedication.
