Okay, be honest, tell me how I did....good or bad. I stopped by the local used tool place and saw these on the floor for $110, but walked out with them for $90.

They start at 2" and go down to 1 5/16" (ten total). I've had a set of larger combination wrenches on my list of things to buy for a while, but haven't spent any time actually searching for them.

Edit...I'm an idiot, I was looking at some other wrenches that were Craftsman, and then liked at these and didn't pay attention to the brand. They're marked "iiT" which I believe is for Illinois Industrial Tool Co.?

Craftsman never made combos bigger then 1 5/16". Those look to be the normal import big wrenches. I bought a similar set new for about $40 10 years ago.

I will say though, that's a very complete large set, most of the times those set skip a lot of sizes, I think my set was only 6 wrenches.

They're all Craftsman and I think they call this the long form, or something along those lines
If it doesn't have the 'Craftsman' name on the tool it aint.

Okay, be honest, tell me how I did....good or bad.
they look pretty decent from here.
If they do the job and you feel the price was fair. I'd say you done good.

you mean they never made raised panels no bigger than 1-5/16? this guy is bigger so craftsman made bigger ones just a little different.

I wouldn't say hosed. They don't look really used from the picture and the tekton aren't that much less for what are also used/open box; I'd be more worried as to why Amazon has that many returns of the tekton if I were buying them. Doubt these are any real difference in quality. Could probably done slightly better watching Ebay, so not a steal but not a ripoff.

Okay guys, I'm an idiot!

I looked at another set of wrenches that were Craftsman, and then looked at these. I didn't pay any attention to the markings, and it didn't even registered when I took the picture that they're marked "iiT" on the side visible in the pics.

It appears that stands for Illinois Industrial Tool Co. and I found the same set on Amazon for $98, so I guess I saved $8. :lol_hitti

I do need them from time to time, fittings on the backhoe, dozer, etc, so they'll be handy to have....that's all I was thinking.

Well as you now know ya paid full retail for a used set. But one day you'll be glad you bought them. I rarely need my big stuff but when I do I'm happy I got them.

Come on, you've been here 7 years and how many times have you seen some dude lose his ****** mind over some simple scratches. I highly doubt anyone actually broke one.

Yes don't beat yourself up like strouty said when you need them they will be worth it.

I have to do some thinking (memory ***** with old age) I can recall seeing those no name sizes back in the 1970's and 1980's at the traveling tool/tent/motel, sales, but I think (key word) either they came from India/Pakistan ???), for not much money.

HF sells a smaller set and a much larger set so you can get a feeling for the prices if you look at the two links below;

http://www.harborfreight.com/4-piece-super-jumbo-combo-wrench-set-1965.html

http://www.harborfreight.com/6-piece-sae-jumbo-combination-wrench-set-925.html

Like I said when you need it you got it; just this week I picked up a 1" used American wrench for $4.00 dollars and I was happy; if you are happy that is all that counts.:)

Come on man, I saved $8 over full retail

If this is the worst mistake I make this month I'll call it good!

It is funny, I have sockets up to 3 1/2", but my wrenches don't go nearly as big. I usually use a pipe wrench or some other type of adjustable. With the hardware being so large, rounding a nut or bolt just isn't an issue unless you are doing something stupid.

As I was reading through the thread, I was thinking "He paid on the high end of retail".
But on further consideration, I remembered that I paid more than that for ONE used Williams large wrench and averaged about $60ea for some of the others. Most may never see any use in my lifetime, but I have them "just in case".

So, I guess that if they get some use and do the job, then you did ok.

When I was a Diesetter, I needed a 1 5/8" wrench for the bolts that held the dies in the press. I couldn't find a US one at the time, so I got a Taiwanese one at one of those tent sales that were the forerunner of HF. I cut the open-end wrench off, and used the box end with a 4' pipe -I leaned into that wrench hard, because those dies had to be TIGHT, but never broke the wrench or damaged it in any way. It 's still hanging up out in the garage, waiting for whenever I get an 800 ton press......

I just paid 21.00 for a brand new one, can't remember what else I need one for but the old Par-X one hangs from my radial arm saw table for blade changes, and I've misplaced it a couple times now grabbing it for other uses; least now when I need it again I won't risk interrupting the flow of my woodworking which I really hate.

You did OK, especially considering this- really big wrenches is one place you can cheap-out. They are so big and thick, one human can't make enough torque to hurt them. Even 3 feet of cheater bar is unlikely to hurt such a large wrench.

There is more discussion about this on GJ but I leave finding it as an exercise to the student. :)

I have never seen those, either in the wild or in print. If anybody has info on the time frame those were made, that would be cool to know.

Figure tax and shipping you didn't do bad. I've seen these around some flea markets but not sets.If they fit properly I wouldn't worry about the deal.

I agree with all of the positive comments. It sound like you will use them infrequently and as said earlier larger wrenches don't need to be as precise as smaller sizes. If you did not have them and had to run out in a pinch to just buy one at a local hardware supply you would pay $25 or more. You paid $9 per wrench and you are covered.

Be happy, live long and prosper!

Bart....what's this local tool store you speak of? Is it next to a bar and a computer store? Or is there another around I don't know about?
