Hi guys,

I'm a junior HD mechanic and I need some big crowsfoot wrenches for taking off hydraulic hoses in awkward spots etc.

The Snap-on ones are nice, I know but also very expensive. Crowsfeet don't get used a whole hell of a lot (for what I do) so I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions? Mac doesn't make big ones. I found these Sunex-brand wrenches on the Sears website. I visited the Sunex website and it says they carry a lifetime warranty.

What do you think?

I have had very good luck with sunex. I have impact sockets from them and they hold up. My tools get used on heavy machinery daily and I recommend the brand for something used occasionally like a crows foot.

I have this Sunex set - I'm happy with them and would purchase them again. I bought from Tooltopia.com if I remember correctly.

no experience with the particular sunex sets you linked to..

but what sizes do you need?

most of the less expensive crowsfeet are a little too big to get into the places i need to access..

nearly all my crowsfeet are SO 3/8" dr...

Buy the Sunex.
If you have a super-common-use size and you're finding the Sunex isn't working so well for you, buy that size in SO.

Those are 44 bucks on amazon.

Mail in warranty.

There are several of varying manufacturer on amazon. Looking at 44-110 for the off-brands. Based on your use you probably want something better. The "neiko" ones are chrome moly (impact grade). 110 bucks. Taiwan.

Honestly, that's what I'd buy if I needed them might be rebrands and might find them elsewhere under a different brand.:dunno:

Thanks a lot for the replies gentlemen.

If I end up buying the Sunex, I'll check Amazon first.... I am however up in BC Canada so sometimes prices can change accordingly when I try to check out (hence my jealously of american online shopping :p) Then there's always the shipping to weigh in....

But before I do that I will check out Proto / Armstrong & Neiko. I totally forgot about Proto. Theres a good store in my town called KMS Tools they are a Proto dealer. I'll check the prices there first.

I don't mind paying a good price for quality but the SO set of large Crowsfeet is almost $1000 :eyecrazy:

Again, thanks. I will let you know what I decide on.

I live in BC and I honestly haven't ever even seen a Matco tool in my life let alone seeing a dealer around up here... :p Does Matco deal in Canada?

I recently picked up the 1" - 1 1/2" set up from tooltopia for under 40 bucks. http://www.tooltopia.com/sunex-tools-9720.aspx I think if you order is over 75 you get free shipping from them.

I like them, A guy from work pointed out his snap on ones were better because they were thinner and the the length from the wrench to the 1/2" hole was shorter. Some people huh lol. Anyway the thicker part doesn't bother me, it works fine for most of the stuff in this size range. As for the longer part, I see this as a plus, they make the crowsfoot like a supper stubby open end wrench. Great for after you have broken the fitting loose but still cant spin it by hand. This also makes it so you can use a ratchet instead of just a breaker bar and get some other angles of attack out of it.

So thumbs up for the Sunex crowsfoot sets

I have both sunnex and SO 1/2" Crowfeet. I kinda like the sunnex better because the drive extends out a bit, giving it a small handle allowing to use as a super short wrench. This a flaw on sizes larger then 1 5/8" as there is not enough meet around the drive. I have broke a couple of the bigger ones, no big deal, I have easy warranty access. I dont like how sunnex skips a couple sizes. Northern sells a kit I bet is the same as sunnex, but doesn't skip any sizes from 1 1/16 to 2" for $70.
