The bigger 3/4 drive impacts from Harbor Freight are pretty good. The are chrome molybdenum, and honestly wouldn't surprise me if they were made in the same factory as GP. Both made in Taiwan. Unfortunately they don't go to 2 in though.

3/4 drive sets are on eBay all the time. I think I paid $50 for an Allen brand (USA) set with a bunch of extensions and a case. I don't think it went all the way up to 2", but you get the idea. Also try KD, Armstrong, Wright, Proto, etc.

You should be able to find something affordable that you'll be proud to own. And that's not to say anything bad about GP - just never seen the stuff.

It's good quality 3/4 drive metric that's harder to come by in my experience.

Ive heard the HF Pittsburgh Pro are good though I don't own any.

^ ^ This. You'll want to watch CL or Ebay like a hawk and pickup up 3/4" drive Pittsburgh pro impact sockets. I saw set for $30 on CL a while back. Bargains out there and no need to buy new for sockets used so rarely.

For a Taiwan set all the way to 2", "JH Williams 38901 17-Piece 3/4-Inch Drive Shallow 6 Point Socket Set" can be had in a case from Amazon for $153 shipped.

Grey Pnuematic and Sunex (fairly close to being the same product) are excellent sockets. Napa (relabled Sunex, I think) and Williams are also pretty good. Basically any of the Taiwanese made chrome moly sockets are pretty good.

Most of us in the shop use GP or Sunex.

I would go with gp they are very good from my experience. Nobody actually knows what sockets are made in what factory and to what spec so that is purely anecdotal.
