Ran into an issue yesterday with my heater and figured I would post my testing and results to help anyone else running into a similar issue.
Yesterday Everytime my heater fired it would run for 30-90 seconds kick off and then 20 seconds later refire. No codes shown on the board other than it calling for heat. After some research I did the following tests.
1. Verified inlet and outlet pressure of gas supply (All good)
2. Verified flame sensors functional
3. Flipped pressure sensor for exhaust (No Change)
4. Cleaned port for exhaust pressure tube (No change)
5. Verified no blockage in exhaust (All good)
6. Bypassed pressure switch for exhaust and was able to run for 30 mins no issues. While the heater was running I tested the vacuum produced by the exhaust fan through the port. The vacuum created should be a min on .40”WC for this unit. I sat and watched the vacuum produced and it bounced between .7”WC produced vacuum to 1”WC of pressure produced every 30 to 90 seconds.
Issue found. Yesterday was a gusty day and everytime a gust came in it produced back pressure in my exhaust vent causing the pressure sensor to open and reclose with the gust every 30 to 90 seconds. I have a horizontal exhaust with about 6 ft total of run.
Now I need to find an exhaust cap that will help to block the wind on the gusty days with a northern wind.
I currently have this cap.
