i have a 75 k Natural gas big maxx. the vent fan starts, the electronic ignitor starts.(the spark is minuscule ) the gas turns on, it doesnt light ,the unit then shuts off. How big of a spark does it need to ignite. could it be the ignitor or the unit the ignitor is plugged into.

I would not think it would need much of a spark to light the gas. Are you sure that the gas valve is working properly and actually allowing gas through ?

Could be getting some "wet" gas in wintertime . . . ie more moisture. Do you have a drip leg on NG supply line to heater??

+1 to double check you have good NG flow that is dry gas. Good luck.

when ignitor turns on i used a long reach fire starter and sparked it. the gas ignited . it went thru a full heat cycle then shut off. When it was time to re start the same happened and had to manually re ignite the gas. This unit worked fine for a while, then this problem

I'd call big maxx customer support. They've got a great reputation for customer service.

Take a picture of your install. Might help us diagnose an issue.

I hate to jump the gun, but it's most likely your circuit board. After 3 years of flawless operation, mine went 2 weeks ago. Mine was visibly scorched behind the ignitor. Customer service shipped out a free replacement right away.

The position of the igniter can be fussy, check the manual and see what it says, It sounds to me like an igniter problem is most likely the issue.

Finally got hold of Mr Heater, they sent me out a new control board and now the unit works fine again. Guess what I was still under warranty, didnt even have to pay for shipping.
