Big Maxx install question

Hello everyone,

I appreciate any input that you could help me with for my garage heater install. I moved into a different house earlier this year, and I need to get a new heater installed. The previous owner was using electric heat in the 24x31 space, and it didn't really do much besides create a very high electric bill.

I purchased a Big Maxx 80,000 NG heater to install. There is already access to an unused vent through the roof for exhaust. The installer quoted $840 to hang the heater, run 20 feet of pipe for the NG and electric to the unit, and to connect it to the vent.

Does this sound reasonable? Any additional suggestions that you can provide for my install?

Thanks!

Sounds reasonable. But why 80,000 BTUs? That's a huge heater for that size garage. Is it uninsulated? Where are you located?

The garage will be insulated by winter, but not overly so. There are 3 garage doors, several windows, and an exterior door.

The specs from the manufacturer say that it is for a 2 1/2 stall garage, and their 50,000 BTU unit would be for a 2 stall. The cost difference was only $30, so I went with the larger unit. I plan to keep the garage at 50, and turn it up when needed to work in the garage. I live in the midwest, so wind chills can get to around -20.

Well when it comes to the artificial riding cost of electricity you can't beat NG. I have a friend in Minnesota and sends Mr pics of frozen drifts blocking the doors top to bottom, so hopefully that 80K heater will keep the roof and doors defrosted. Here in SW AZ I I never use my heater and my water heater is set to "vacation" lol.
