I'll make this long story as short as possible.....I was mowing night before last and noticed the guy next door had half his garage floor painted. Being unsure about what product I'm going to use on my garage floor I went over to check it out. Well he wasn't in a very good mood. Seems he went to Lowes to buy his supplies and was ready to check out and the guy in the paint department told him he had the wrong stuff and sold him concrete stain by Quick Crete. It turned out to be the product for the outside driveway meant to be applied to a brushed driveway. He called Quick Crete and conplained about the product and was told that they would cover all expenses less his labor to make it right, plus called Lowes and made them give him the proper 2 part epoxy, which was what he had in his cart the first time. Myself, his dad, and himself worked from 5:30pm-10pm with paint stripper, walk behind floor scrubber, and a pressure washer and got about all of it up. There is still a couple of more hours work to do in the corners. So guys, do your research and ask the manufacturer questions, not so called experts at the big box home improvement centers (not to offend anyone I'm sure they have some employees that know their jobs).

Another story that p.....es you off to read about. Here's one thing I've learned when unsure about sales people, is to ask if "they" personally have done the same job you want to do, since many don't even own a garden hose themselves. In these parts, we have some ex-contractors working in stores, which is very helpful, yet other times, it's "wannabe" types, that just try and give you a good fuzzy feeling about what they know. There is always misunderstandings at times, but I try and be specific to the point and what I expect, not just "it will work".
I feel for you guys and it's nice to have neighbours chip in and give a guy a hand when in need, same as mine. I would probably have used the store guys forehead as a scrub pad!

When I saw paint and lawnmower in the same sentence, I almost thought he had something fuzzy . . . which wouldn't have been good either. Knowing what your looking for is very handy . . . I feel for those people that get the blind leading the blind treatment in any store. I cringe when I'm at the local CompUSA and listen to the "intelligence" spouted off there. Ick.

You helped him scrub his garage floor for 4-1/2 hours? Sounds like he has a pretty damn good neighbor! Way to go!

Hey, the wife was out clothes shopping and my son was playing golf, I needed some cheap entertainment. Besides I'm wanting to do something with my floor so it was a learning experience:beer:

How did it come out? Did the new epoxy stick to the floor w/o peeling up? The reason I ask is I had a similar situation. Went to Home Dumpo and was looking for the Rustoleum epoxy flooring. They were out of stock and the guy talked me into the Behr brand product. What a mistake. Took twice as much product as they stated to do the job and after 6 months it started peeling up. Now after 3 years and many touch ups, I'm convinced that the whole floor has to go and be redone. Hopefully I can find a neighbor or friend as generous as you to help me strip the floor so I can start over again.

I posted awhile back about the Behr stuff. Within 6 months I had the **** wore off from just general entering and exiting the garage with the car. It's like thick latex paint, no life to it at all, for garage floors. Actually, I don't care for any of thier products now, always some issue with finish etc, but have learned many new "song and dances" from the people that sell it to you!

Still finishing up the cleanup.....I haven't been over there yet today. He said he is going to finish taking off the rest of the stain, pressure wash, acid etch, and pressure wash one last time. I'll let you all know how it turns out.

Sometimes you really have to listen to the people talking to you. If you listen closely to them you can usually tell if they have personally done this project before or if they have listened to people that have done it before. If they don't seem like they have any first hand experience, I try someone else.

All cleaned up and painted yesterday. It looks pretty nice. I'm not sure what could have been done other than shot blasting the floor to prep it any better. He's talking about getting the roll out BLT?? mat to lay down where the cars sit. Any suggestions on where to buy these at a good price?

I got mine at Lowes. They had to order it. Winds up costing the same as getting it direct because Lowes makes you pay the shipping. It's easier to pick it up at Lowes than making sure you are home when it's delivered.
