Big oil spill on asphalt

I did my oil change as I have done many times before, but the old oil filter seal stayed on the engine when I put the new filter on. When I started the car, there was a huge spray leak, as you might imagine.

I did two rounds of cat litter within minutes, and tomorrow I plan to use CLR Grease Magnet to remove it more.

Still, my landlord is not going to be impressed. If this cleanup doesn't fly, what are my options for really repairing it? The spill is about 3ft x 3ft. Could I just have that section re-paved?

I had good luck with my pressure washer and degreaser on my dad's driveway. Tried it on my buddies and it didn't work worth a damn.

Get yourself some concrete colored paint

I watched the Antique Drags Sunday in Barona, and they had a 5 gallon jug of lacquer thinner and a mop to clean up oil spills on the track. May be worth a try.

I use brake clean on concrete. Maybe it works the same on asphalt?

This is asphalt - not concrete....it's basically aggregate glued together with tar and tar is an oil derivative. Anything you put on it to break down the oil will also break down the asphalt. Best thing to do is soak it up as best as you can (kitty litter, dirt/dust) and leave it alone.

get a lawn and garden sprayer, cut the oil with gas and just spray the whole driveway...lol

If it is on asphalt, the oil isn't going to hurt it. Get as much of it up as you can. How big is the asphalt area? If you want to hide the stain, grab a 5 gallon pail of driveway sealer and roll it on. I did that last summer when I dumped about 3 gallons of oil in the driveway (don't ask ). Used kitty litter to get the liquid up, then re-sealed with sealer.

Clean it as soon as possible with a water based product. No solvents. Oil takes a few days to get into asphalt, I doubt if you will see it after a month or two.

Pour N Restore is now approved for asphalt. We have several sizes available and can even get 55 gallon drums

Let me spell it out for you....
Use the weed burner after spraying the gas.

After that the oil stain will no longer be a problem.

Talking about living life on the edge...

I park one of my cars in the backyard. I got tired of the grass growing around the car. I had an extra gallon of gas from the mower that was stale. Poured it in the area and lit it. Stood by w/ the hose. The wife wasn't thrilled, but it worked great. Sorry for the tangent.
