Anyone ever try a 7" rubber backing/sanding pad on a 4-1/2" grinder ? Obviously the guard will not fit.

yes I literary just did this last week

now it worked fine but gets a little strange to hold ( gyroscopic effect?)
but it works ok

and I did something stupid though ,, I was not wearing gloves and my makita grinder has an on off switch unlike all my Dewalt paddles so as I was manipulating the switch the end of the disk hit my finger ..boy that can take meat off fast lol

that's all on me I was working on a large bid and snuck out o the shop for ten seconds of tool time and got a reminder that complacency hurts

And i would never recommend not running a guard ,, unrelated ;-o hey is the garage sale the proper place to sell 4 unused grinder guards ? guards

I would expect a 7” rubber pad to fly apart dangerously at 4.5” grinder speeds. If you have a 7” grinder, that’s a different story.

My 7”/9” Milwaukee grinder rpm says 6000rpm and as someone else said the pad says Max 8500 I’d be a bit afraid to run it at almost twice the speed at which the grinder it goes on does
